Hey all,

So I have been enjoying and learning my new Intuos Pro Medium (default standard surface), which I have to say is brilliant & now don't use a mouse for 95% of the time!

However one thing I keep seeing articles about, is how quick the nib degrade &/or can scratch the tab surface.

Now are they really that bad? I am only a very light user of mine, only using it for general moue movement most days (instead of using a mouse now) & then when using it for photo editing, I only use it for sliders & low pressure brush work. I never do any hard pressure stuff.

I have been using the felt nib as read these can help preserve the surface more up to now, however this morning I tried the standard nib again & actually think I prefer that, but since reading lots about easy scratching, especially with the standard nib, I want to see if this realy is the general consensus?

Do any of you guys, use the tab with the standard nibs, with the kind of use (or more) as me, with no problems and no finding of tab surface scratching?

Many Thanks :)

I have the intuos pro M and have really never had a problem with the nibs infact I only changed one last week after many years, but I also only use Lightroom most of the time. My tab surface is scratched but still works fine after must be 5 years plus of use, I do keep the surface covered when not in use but I lived in a very dry dusty country up until recently so habit now. also wipe the surface with a clean cloth before I use it again just habit with me. Russ.

I've been using my Intous very extensively for 10 years now and got through a few standard nibs as they wear out.
Yes my tablet has loads of little scratches all over it, but it neither bothers me nor affects antyhing.

The felt nibs are more for a different feel than to stop wearing out the tablet.

I have a cintiq as well and also use the hard nibs on that without any issues either, though on that I mostly use the nib with a spring in it, simply as I prefer the feel. No other reason

Hi Russ, thank you very much for this. It’s good to hear directly from a user on a forum I trust, have an experience with it as you have & also using it in a way I will do to.

As you say small light scratches are going to happen, but it was the reading of quick deep scratches I was worried, so I’m glad to hear that for normal use like us, with the standard nibs, that that’s not the case.

In that case I will change back to the standard nibs :)

Many thanks :)

Hello, Thank you for this, as above very greatful to hear that aside from of course little light scratches, using the Standard nibs on this tablet for standard use can be done knowing that bad scratches like have read about should happen as they suggest.

Your right about the felt nibs, and it’s actually because of this a prefer the standard nibs, however I only used the felt due to what I had been reading, but I thought surely that could be the case most of the time, because otherwise they wouldn’t provide the standard nibs! So after reading all the helpful comments, I will change the the standard nibs & enjoy the tab :)

Thank you
