I have searched the net for all sorts of tutorials. Thee is plenty about if you search.
For the price of a book you could consider a DVD, such as this:

Photonhead is a very good site to explain some of the basics. The Simcam on the site great for showing changes to the settings.
There is a better Camera simulator here however which looks more like the display on a DSLR.

Hello and welcome to the TP,
The first thing that you must do is learn by heart, or at least master your camera manual, it could be your best friend (so I have been told).
After you know everything about your camera, than you should look for other books, sites of whatever. At the moment I'm reading, don't laugh, "Digital SLR Cameras and Photography For Dummies".
Remember your camera manual is your best friend!
