Hi all, am at the stage of changing internet provider and would like help on choosing. The main issue for me is usage. The one I am with now,TalkTalk, says unlimited downloads although I am aware of the fair usage policy.I am thinking of PLUSNET who have very good reviews and who offer 10gb per month. Is this ok for someone who does not do games etc but just uses the internet for viewing websites, downloading software and updates for photoshop etc and viewing tutorials via u tube. Hope this makes sense as I am not up to speed on these things and do hope you can help me on this matter.:help:

It's difficult to say without knowing what you use and how many times you use it....

A PS update will be ~200MBytes (or 0.2GB) software will be whatever you use, but something like a full download for Ubuntu can be ~3GBytes. You'll have to figure out what you download and how big it is. Then add 50% in case of higher downloads and don't forget things like Windows update which can be 100MBytes.

My personal recommendation is always Be Unlimited, although they aren't the cheapest. They are very good and they have their own equipment in exchanges so you're not knobbled by the BT backbone.

I've just moved one account from Talktalk to Plusnet, using the MSE Website link, to get the special offer. Can't remember the exact price but it was basic phone and broadband, and the 10GB/mo got upgraded to 20GB/mo, and by paying One Pound extra I got 'free' evening and weekend calls. It has been said that if you download 12 midnight, to 8 a.m. it is not counted in the download allowance. Another family member is in a similar situation, and will move soon. This is not a recommendation, but to me the balance of costs, etc. suggest the move is worthwhile.

Edit: I should say that TT offering much better deals to new customers also encouraged me to move.

I quality asses customer service calls for TT, if you them up and say you want to cancell they can beat that offer.

Ask to speak to customer loyalty.
Calling them up and getting reasonable service would do more for customer loyalty!

I'm with TT and while I've managed to get some improvements to my speed through their members forum, I've had too many bad experiences with telephone support to be inclined to stay, even if they are cheaper...

Also not sure how much usage would need - similar needs to OP.

Thank for the help and tips, bad customer service is making me look around, any problems I have had usually mean a few hours on the phone and most times not getting very far. Agree going for a no limit agreement might be the best option.

Kevin that was my experience with TT too. Until this week when I simply posted on their member forums. I had to wait a day for the initial response, but they've been monitoring the thread and coming back to sort things out. Worth a try and its one of the things I'd check now - if an ISP has support forums, it seems to be a much easier and faster way of sorting out an issue (plus you don't have to wait ages listening to silly tunes, or repeat your details each time to several different people...)
