Be gratefull if someone could help with this.
Running two PCs.
No1 has Windows 7 and connects to the internet (Virgin) via a Netgear router (supplied by Virgin some time ago) and an ethernet lead.
No2 has WXP and connects to the internet via a Thomson Speedtouch modem.
Only got one phone line therefore I can either have the lead to the modem or the lead to the router connected.
Ideally I would like both PCs to connect via the router (only one would be connected to the internet at a time) to avoid the need to plug and unplug phone leads.
I thought it would take no more than connecting a second ethernet lead from the router (it has 4 ethernet ports) to PC No2. Tried it and it does not work failed to connect.
Could the problem be that the modem linked No2 PC has Virgin software on it (was used to set up the internet connection many moons ago) and expects to see a modem connection and nothing else.
I dont want to install the Virgin software without being certain that will cure the problem since the CD to reinstall it has gone walkabouts.
Thanks in advance.
Dougie
