Would be interested to hear if anyone has entered this, or has considered it (and not bothered), or even better, won it!

So. The way it works.

You pay $2 via Paypal (or credit card).
Your photo gets entered into the compeition.
At the end of the week, the "judges" vote for the best photo.
Winner gets half the takings (i.e. $1 per photo entered) paid back through paypal.

There's no "topic", and no limit to the number of images you submit. You can submit the same images the following week, and the rules state that you won't be "discriminated" against. There's no crushing copyright restrictions. You retain everything and they basically have a right to put your picture on their competition webste & that's it.

The only (admittedly large) downside is the potential the same person wins every week and it's the buddy of the bloke running the site. i.e. You Never Win. Or maybe I'm just overly gloomy today... Google reveals no negative criticism.

I'll probably give it a punt at some point. Need to read those T&C's again though.

hmmm sounds very strange to me

some one is keeping half the profit straight off. 2 to enter and winner only get 1 back per picture entered.

say 500 pics entered the 'owner' just pocket an easy 250.

like you say there might be a few of them in it with different user names doing the winning rounds.

This is a little money making exercise for the site owners (nothing wrong with that) but why would anyone want or need to enter their pointless competitions?

You would be better off sending me $A2 a week, then me and my mate Bryan could then have a great night down at the pub at your expense because Bryan will always win.

But like all things, it’s a personal choice to give away your hard earned dosh.

Harlequin, thanks for considering entering weeklyphotocomp.com, it should be an enjoyable experience for you if the feedback from our previous repeat entrants is anything to go by. We look forward to seeing your work and wish you the best with your entries.

To Robbo & Kemble3, I hope you don't have such a cynical and negative outlook on every aspect of life. This is not simply a money making exercise for the owners. We have a passion for photography and wanted to create a simple and exciting way for photographers of all levels, all nationalities, all styles, all ages etc to potentially be rewarded for their work on a more regular basis than other premier photography competitions and also a place where people can check in occasionally to see a collection of quality photographs of all types. We hope to expand and be in a position to offer un precedented prize money every week once our site becomes better known among the worldwide photography community. we have invested many thousands of dollars to set this up and yes it would be nice to be rewarded eventually for our efforts and investment but that is not our primary goal. Of the half entry fees that do not go out as prizes, we have to cover Paypal fees on every entry, cost of judges, admin staff, advertising overheads, 10% of company profits pledged to various charities, taxes. Our mates are not reaping the prize money on our behalf. If you look at the previous winners archive, you will see real photographers from all over the world, some of which point to their own photo websites or blogs so you can see we are not fabricating winners. We are ethical and honest people doing our best for the photography community and if we make a dollar at the end of the day, good luck to us.

Why would anybody bother entering this competition you ask? Well why would anybody ever bother entering any photography competition? Because some people like to pit themselves against their peers and see if they have what it takes, some of us like to think we have a chance of being chosen as a winner and be rewarded with recognition and money. No ones forcing you to invest $2 for a shot at the prizes, if you would rather have a beer down at the pub with your mate Bryan then go for it.

Hope you check out the site and if you see fit to have a go then we welcome you.
Joe
