So I have got to a point where I want to challenge my photography skills a bit more.
I am a massive fan of Duffy and all these crazy techniques he used.
And now I am learning about double exposures. So a couple of questions.
Can anyone explain how to do a double exposure on a dslr in camera? Or as much in camera as possible.
And are there any other cool techniques and tricks I could try out? Either with film or digital as I shoot both. Or even better film tricks that I could reproduce on a digital with minimal editing.
Thank you :)

It will vary from model t model. Not being funny here... but wouldn't your camera's manual explain what you need to do?

Personally... I reckon you;d get far more control and creative possibilities by just taking shots normally, and doing this in post.

I've seen quite a few doing a variation on blurry water shots with multiple exposures, but my gut tells me to do it in post (if its even worth doing lol) as Pookeyhead says

And at the risk of showing my total ignorance here - who the Hell is 'Duffy' and what are his 'crazy techniques' ??? Link please :)

Dave

The only "Duffy" I can think of is the hugely famous Brian Duffy, but I can't think of any work of his that uses "crazy" techniques... so no idea either.

Yeah it is Brian Duffy and he is well known for using strange and difficult techniques. Specifically I can't name images but I attended a talk by his son Chris Duffy who spoke extensively about how difficult his father was, he was forever making the shots harder just for the sake of it.

I struggle to read manuals. So I just thought I'd ask on here and.speak to real people. No need to patronise. Just how I prefer to do things.

I own a Nikon so I guess it will have to be done in the post edit.

I don't know if all Nikon's support multiple exposures, but have a look in the shooting menu as it will be set up from there if yours does.

Doing it on the computer is easier though!

Well - I feel even more ignorant now as I have no idea who Brian Duffy is either - I'd best Google him then lol

But I did find a Stephen Duffy who uses multiple images for creating rather unusual portraits, so I thought you meant him

I have a few mates who simply can't take stuff in reading at the best of times, and manuals are only vaguely written in English !!! Seeing & doing works well for me too :)

Which Nikon is it? I think I read, and quickly ignored as pointless at the time, that mine may do multiple exposures

Dave

A quick google search seems to show lots of Nikon's doing multiple exposures :)

The whole manual situation, I find myself getting incredibly bored and inevitably my mind wonders and I don't really take anything in. I'm definitely more of a practical person. It tends to get soaked in a lot easier :)

I am very interested in this Stephen Duffy now. I'm going to check him out as well now. Could be a happy accident. Haha

First of all.. I wasn't patronising you... it genuinely would be the best thing to do, so why wouldn't I suggest it? I'm trying to help you.

Secondly.. You can take multiple exposures on many Nikons, and being a pro model I'd be surprised if the D2x can't. I'm sure someone with one will be along shortly... but it's an old camera now. Is there a D2X thread in the Equipment forum?

I found this in 5 seconds on Google though.

You sure? He's famous for portraits and fashion... all pretty straight forwards film based stuff. Can you link to anything? Beginning to suspect there's either two Brian Duffys or you've got your wires crossed.

Yeah I have tried Google but to be honest I just thought I'd ask people directly that way I can ask questions specific to something I don't understand.
