Interesting project on Kickstarter

Very interesting project. It's similar to what has been done with Chroma cameras. here in the UK.
 
I'm thinking of publishing a book of my photographs (30 years of shooting folk music in Ireland, UK, EU and North America) , anyone know if Kickstarter is a good way to fund book publishing?
 
It seems to be a very impressive product; the documented history of design modifications before it got to this stage gives some confidence that it is carefully thought out. The price does not seem outrageous - no more than you might spend on a new high-end digital camera, but should last much longer.

It seems geared towards portrait photographers so not an exact match to my needs.

I would say yes it can be but I feel it will depend very much on your skills on Social media and being able to promote the campaign. Also having a slick kickstarter page will help.
I have seen others promoting books.

Why not try a Zine first to market test the idea?
