Does anybody know how insurance companies define "uk resident" (because this is requirement for getting insured)?

I've been living in uk for about 4 months, i have nin and i'm working in UK - will i get camera insurance?

is the UK your primary residence? Do you live here most of the year? Do you pay UK taxes? Those are 3 questions that will give you a pretty good idea if you're a resident. I'm a US citizen residing in the UK and have gone through this for tax purposes.

thanks,
rick

I'm a non citizen but do reside in the UK. I pay may taxes here, that is the easiest test.

My advice would be to phone the insurance companies. To me, if this is where you live/work/pay taxes it will be fine. What do you do for car/house/travel insurance?

Having a UK address (owned/rented in your own name - even if you're a sub-tenant, as long as you have a rental agreement/contract), being on the electoral roll and paying council tax should qualify you. A few utility bills in your own name (electricity, landline, water, etc) always helps establish residence.. and give you a footprint on the sources the insurance company will check.

You will have to determine what they mean by 'UK resident', as you have discovered. The easiest, and most certain, way to do this is to phone a few insurers or get a broker to find a solution for you. Get everything in writing, to avoid the risk of running into a snag if you have to claim.
