Evening,

Hoping to get trackside for some motorsport events this year and looking for some help regarding insurance. I believe I need public liability insurance for up to £2m and equipment cover for approx £1,500.

Can anyone recommend any policies or provide me with any further advice

Thanks

Stephen

to be honest I would check with the race organisers first before spending any money you dont need to. Not all require PLI, and none that I know of require equipment insurance.

(although Rockingham have just decided you need £5mill to shoot there).

Good luck, and see you on the track

Gary has hit it on the head, but the only other thing to consider is that non-public race meetings (ie test days and track days) generally are not covered by a circuit's insurance policy (if they have one at all) and so they will require typically £5mil PLI before they will let you out there.

For the non-tarmac stuff, Motocross/Supercross etc etc tend not to have any insurance cover for photographers and want you to provide your own if you want to shoot that. Thats my main use of my PLI to be honest...

I've been asked in the past to provide proof of PLI for BARC owned circuits...and for Castle Combe. Though I had suspected that it was to prevent people from just turning up for the hell of it and shooting without having any commission etc.

I've been asked to see it at Rockingham, Mallory and Croft for racing. £5m. Have been asked to show it at test days as well.

Sounds like its MSV only then that don't want it for race days. Most of my tarmac stuff is at MSV circuits :D

Oh, just to add another one, Lydden (the Monza of SE England) ask for it

I think that circuits will start asking for it more often this year, but I've covered a LOT of races in the past 4 years and have never been asked for PLI
I was asked once at Donington for a test day, though.

Strange...maybe I look like the accident prone type?!

I think I'd be worried more if the real name said Stephanie :)

Hold the witch-hunt, a lot of people use their middle names rather than their first names! :)

Brandywell I would consider why you want to go trackside before you start paying money out.
Just being able to trackside does not always mean you will a) get better photo's b) be able to move around freely c) actually make any money from it.
