Having a problem installing CS3 onto a computer, when i get to the install section it tells me the Internet Explorer is open and i need to shut it down, thing is we totally unplugged the internet to be sure but still the same problem, never had any issues on mine both machines running XP only difference i can see is mines using Norton other machine as free install version of AVG, that you don't sem to be able to shut off, due yo think this is the likely cause.

Many thanks for any help in advance

go to processes in task manager and see if iexplore.exe or ieuser.exe are running.

If so stop them

Is it a legit copy of CS3?

I agree with PsiFox, it sounds to me like you have IE running in the background.

Hold down ctrl, alt and delete. In the processes window, see if the files he mentions are running. If they are, highlight them and click "end process". Then try installing again. Should solve the problem :)

Craikeybaby - legit or otherwise should have no effect on the ability of the software to install, unless the "dodgy" copy is corrupted but then I wouldn't expect it to come up with such a specific error message.

AVG Does need to be turned off before installing Photoshop. Normally there is an icon on the task bar right click on it and choose exit.

You never know what can be bundled in with these cracked versions, it is a great way to spread viruses/malware because you click OK to install it...

First port of call in these situations is to simply reebot your pc, pop the kettle on, and try again

That's a fair point

I downloaded CS3 on to a new vista machine lastweek, with agv running in the background, you can't in fact turn it off.
I had no trouble at all. Internet explorer should only be running if you open it, that is unless you put it in your start menu. If so take it out.

Would appear this is a common fault though as yet still not sorted it, keeps telling us to shut down Internet Explorer, even though its not running even unplugged it.

Did you check the task manager as above in post 4? This will tell you exactly what is running on the PC.

Is it a genuine copy of CS3?
