Yes
It took me ages to signs up, but I did it eventually.

Something to do with ... I used my home computer, not a smartphone.

And now I can't upload photos.

So .... how do you get stuff from pc to "insta"?

Thanks :giggle:

It's an app - you need to use a mobile device to upload. I like to save pictures onto my Google drive then pick them up on my phone and post from there.

P.S. there are probably some 3rd party things which let you do it from PC but I don't like the idea of handing over my account details.

Thanks.

I've got pics in PhotosGoogle but can't work out how to copy one or two across to Insta without a phone.

Maybe it's about time I got a phone. Hmmm

Instagram was originally started as an app the you used to take photos, apply filters and post. It has evolved to be much more and is used by a lot of photographers to share their work.

Unfortunately, the upload process hasn't evolved with it IMHO. I have to upload photos to my computer, edit them then transfer them back toi my phone in order to post them on Instagram.

Opera browser has an upload tool built in.

You can upload on your home PC if you set to browser to smartphone mode. Open the browser tools (usually F12) and it is the device toolbar you are looking for. It makes your browser appear as a smartphone and Instagram will allow you to choose a photo for upload.

Hardest - Install an android (or iphone) emulator (bluemix etc.) and then install the Instagram App.
Simplest - Install Vivaldi (Browser) and use that. Though it can be a bit of a pain sometimes
Most Convenient - Convert Instagram to a 'business' account (I think that's required). Link to your Facebook business page (not personal page), then use Creator Studio to upload. Much more fully featured than Vivaldi, includes the ability to crop, schedule, search etc.

Hi Tim

The above (YT Vid) method is simpler than it looks.

I just thought I'd post a few odds & sods ... some abstract stuff (?)

I've been signed up for a couple of weeks, and it's good to be able to see local small businesses and stuff from people who don't have a website just an "insta".

If your aim is to grow your audience, rather than just share pictures with family and friends, you need to do a couple of things...

Start interacting with others - follow accounts, like and comment on images.
Start using # and @, to get your images noticed.

Right, so I don't want to confuse things, but, I have two insta accounts, one for friends and family to follow and another for more "serious" photography.
If you want followers, then #tags are the way to go.
As an example. This would have the #tags, #poppies #red #flowers #glass #vase #black #three #reflection

Just to add, there is a known issue at the moment where in certain cases (certainly IOS users) it is not possible to upload from flickr to Instgram unless you select the older Instagram icon.
Using this method will however reduce your image size.
Flickr staff have contacted Instagram regarding this as the problem seems to be due to a recent Instagram update.

The problem with Instagram is that, it is supposed to be a social media platform where you would say what you're doing or how you're feeling, by using pictures instead of text. Sort of an online postcard for all your followers to see. Hence the software is more geared and suited for smartphones as you may be out and about and suddenly want to let your family, friends, followers, etc., know what you're doing or feeling, anytime and anywhere.

Hence it is more tricky trying to upload from desktop/laptop to Instagram, when it is a lot easier to upload form a smartphone. Not impossible, it could be done, but it tends to be tricky. More experienced computer users tend to find ways to get to upload the photos from desktop to Instagram, I heard it was possible but you would need to be very experienced with computer.

I gave up trying to get my postings from my desktop to Instagram by uploading from computer, and decided to upload via iPad. I just drag and drop my creation to a folder on my desktop, that will sync to my iPad, then I use the Instagram app on my iPad to upload.

Did you try the method in the video shared by Dominic in post #11?

I upload photos to Flickr on my laptop then save them on my phone from the Flickr app. Then upload them to insta. Bit of a pain but doesn’t take too long
