Hello - looking to purchase the Canon IP4850 from amazon. Currently around ~£50. I was wondering whether anyone has had success re-filling (or 3rd party ink cartridges)themselves.

NOT going to be shelling out £55 for new Canon ink as this is quite frankly ludicrous.

Anyone?

Be interested in this too as I am considering ordering one also.

I did find a site selling 3rd part cartridges but they didn't seem to be refillable.

I use refillables from Cityink express in my Canon pixma 9000.

The initial outlay was expensive as it has 8 carts but from there it's cheap as chips and the inks are accurate for colour and seem to be very stable in strong light.

hi I've been using the continuse ink system from cityink express on my IP4850 for quite afew months and find the results great, they look the same as the cannon inks. system was £56 with ink and the refills work out at 58p per cartridge

Pigment inks are more expensive because they are more colour fast. They aren't affected by sunlight and tend to be stronger colours. They also cost more to manufacture and are a b****r to get off your hands.

As for fitting the chips from your origional carts it's a no can do as they chip will read empty.

CISS systems are generaly very good and cheaper to run. I went the refillable way so I could leave the cover of the printer properly shut.

City inks do pigment inks for cis systems from what I remember more expensive than dye and wasnt need for the setup I created for my mum but could give best of both worlds

Mine arrived today, ordered from a 3rd party supplier via amazon (UK Compatible Ink) and it came with non genuine ink. Guess they swapped it out or something. If you're about to order order from amazon direct, I didn't realise there was only £3 in it until just now.

Not fussed enough to return it but will down rate the seller.

Impressions on the printer though are is it's excellent. First 3 prints are awesome. Slight green cast on 1 B&W compared to the same one done by DSC but nothing major and could be down to a number of factors such as the DSC was sRGB and the Canon print was using a profile etc. Also the non genuine ink would be off from the canon profile no doubt.

Get the genuine Canon cartridges fro Justinkandpaper in Guernsey. Much cheaper and avoids the potential risk of third party inks that can trash a printer.

personally with a cheap printer, (which is what you're buying) i'd stick with originals.
if you bought the printer for home photo printing then you'll get better quality out of theprinter using the right paper and the right pigment inks.
otherwise if it's just for the kids homework then there is no loss...and you send your photos away to photobox.
the choice....is yours!

Does anyone know if the canon ip4850 and ip4950 use the same cartridges?

Search the Internet for both carts and see if they are the same

Just out of interest , doesn't the use of third party cartridges affect the warranty?

I use inks from ink.co.uk for all my canon printers ( and friends and family). Have found them reasonably priced.
They were good with me at refunding cartridges that didn't quite work with my printer due to manufacturing tolerances (it turned out that I had to use a sharp knife to trim a bit of plastic on those ones).

Currently using ink-rite on my canon mx6150 which I think is the same cartridges as your 4850.
