Has anyone ever covered this or know what size the "pitch" is please? I am visiting a friend who has a place nearby and would like to get some pics but I don't really want to be taking any more equipment than is essential. Not sure if the 70-200 will be too long for it

I don't but I can email my friends tomorrow that are in a cycle polo club near us and they'll be able to give details. Where is it?

Oh that would be fantastic, I have a week so its not a rush. Thanks a lot :)

No worries :)

Got this back from my friend:

I would suspect it will be much on the same lines as urban polo which is played on a very small court (the sort of basketball/tennis court/5-a-side football type court found on the corners of city streets). Urban polo has become very popular - 3-a-side, very small ball and goal, mallets made out of ski poles or golf clubs with a piece of plastic pipe on the end. You can only score using the round end of the mallet, not the side. We've played it a few times, just prefer the speed and space of grass.

Whereabouts is it? They said they would be interested if there was tournaments close to us

Thanks a lot to your friend (and you obviously) for the fast reply. It sounds as if I will be looking at the 24-70 for that if its likely to be a small area!

The place is in Europe so not likely to be known to your friend for tournaments, its a good few hours drive the other side of the water!

Well they've just got back from a tournament in Paris so not quite out of the question!

That might change things a bit then as the European version of indoor polo may be different from Urban Polo. I can ask the French team if you want

But as for lens advice. I'm not much help as I only do the outdoor one. I use my 2.8 70-200mm

You'll have fun though, it's a great sport :)

Ah, looks as if the 70-200 may need to go as well then  It will certainly be different from my normal stuff, just hope I can get a couple of decent shots of them.
At least it won't be as fast or have as big a pitch as the normal polo I watch :D
