Hello,

Feel like an idiot for asking this...I sent a portrait off to a print lab hoping to get a 12x18 print done. Thankfully they got back to me and said that the subjects face was all pixelated, and have requested that I send a larger file size. What I sent originally turned out to be 2mb in size, not suitable for a large print. Strange thing is that any landscapes I sent have been fine, but this is the first time I've sent a portrait for large print.

Can someone please give me an idiots guide to increasing file size in Photoshop? I believe that it should be roughly 1mb per inch, so I have to increase it to c.18mb. Really basic stuff I know. I can have a root round the web once I get home from work, but if anyone can give a brief guide before then I will be very grateful.

Cheers,
D.

What are the dimensions of the image that you're trying to save from Photoshop?

If you start off with a small image and make it larger then you are increasing the size of each pixel which will result in each pixel being bigger. This is noticeable when big and will look pixilated as they've already said.

I should say that if you only have the 2mb file you might be struggling. What size files were the landscape shots and what size did you print them at?

Thanks for the quick responses folks...I'm at work at the moment so can't check the exact dimensions at this time. Admirable - yes, I have the original file as shot from the camera.

The only thing I can add at this time is that I done my RAW edits and cropping in Aperture. I'm guessing some file size was lost in the cropping. Thanks for the link to the tutorial - I'll take the original uncropped file into Photoshop later on and try the cropping there as per tutorial. In reality there was little cropped out from the original, just a bit of background stand a a bit of the ceiling. It's not even a full length shot, only top two thirds of the subject.

Cheers again.
