I'm being a bit stupid and starting a double 52 project :bonk: so here's the themed one and then I've got the other one here too.

Week one Curves (below)
Week two Poem
Week three (taken but stuck on a lost memory card... will post when I find it!)
Week four Street

A couple from Cambodia here..
Week five Speed
Week six Present
Week seven People

And back home and back on track!
Week eight Mechanical
Week nine Play

As ever, comments and criticism welcome.

Week one - curves in the snow

I did have another shot in mind first but there's already been at least two guitars posted and my next thought was a stupidly complicated light painting setup so I've settled on this one...

All C&C welcome!

something very calm about that shot, the light suits it

Like it alot, i'd be tempted to crop out the bush out at the bottom though

Very effective Pete, I like it a lot. Just one thing you might like to add to your rules... Never look at anyone elses thread, till you've got your shot. Your shot is your shot, regardless of how many similar ones make it, and I know how it makes you feel if you look prior to posting yours and find something similar.

Like this a lot - the warm lighting works well for a cold scene and the tyre tracks are a great subtle curve.

Hi Pete,

Great start there
I really like this shot. Wonderful calm feel to it.
Just the perfect amount of tyre tracks too. It gets the curves theme across well, but there hasn't been enough traffic for it to get messy yet.

The orange glow is perhaps a little too much for my tastes. I'd be tempted to cool it down, just a touch.

And I'd 100% agree with that. It's one of the rules that I try to stick with.

Nice attempt to offer a different perspective on what we are almost fed up with seeing over the last few weeks.

I like this a lot - very subtle, serene and calm.

Good lighting, the soft tones really suit the photo, and nice easy composition.

This week I've been very busy after I started my new job so I knew I would only have this weekend to shoot this week's 52 image.

This week's theme was very broad so I'm hoping that there's less similarity this week (I've deliberately not looked at any other 52's yet so I don't know!).

The Oak by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Live the Life,
Young and old,
Like you oak,
Bright in spring,
Living gold;

Summer-rich
Then; and then
Autumn-changed,
Soberer-hued
Gold again.

All his leaves
Fall'n at length,
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough,
Naked strength

Hope you like it! It's unfortunate that it's quite similar to my 'open theme' 52 image from last week but by the time I came to take my shot of the tree that I'd found it was nearly dark! I promise more variety with my next shots.

All C&C welcome!

Really like week 1 :)
Although I like week 2 I'm wondering what it would look like with just the big tree (but that's nature)

I tried but I couldn't find an angle or position where I could avoid the bush but that I wasn't cropping some of the branches! maybe I'll take a hedge-trimmer out with me next time? ;-)

Fantastic colours for the poem pictures. Would agree regarding a single tree, but you would have been stupid to miss out on that sky backdrop.

Really good pic for the poem Peter

I like seeing silhouettes against pretty skies and that Oak has an interesting shape to it.
Agree about the bush to the left, but there really wasn't anything you could do about that.

For some reason there seems to be a little bright patch to the left of the tree. Not sure what it is, but it could easily be cloned or burned out.

Curves: like it - tranquil and conveys that 'snow hushed' feeling! Think it needs a tiny straighten unless that lampost leans a little :)

Poem: Thats just great - love the image love the poem - a wonderful silhouette!!

I think the bright patch might have been above where the sun had gone down - I tend to only do curves, white balance etc adjustments in Lightroom but now you've got me thinking about more detailed editing, thanks!

Thanks John, and good point about the lamp-post! I'll check whether it's got a lean... I think I checked that the smaller lamp and telegraph pole were straight and forgot to look at the bigger one! It's details like that I need to be more careful to check... chalk one up to the learning curve!

Excellent Poem and lovely image to go with it

Curves: I like it but find the yellow sodium lighting a bit off-putting and would prefer to see it in B/W.

Poetry: Lovely composition and silhouette that fits the poem perfectly!:clap:

So I'm a little late posting this one... it's been a busy couple of days!

I empathised with this guy... left waiting with the shopping bags while the wife keeps shopping!

I don't do a lot of street photography but my favourite so far is this one from a couple of weeks ago:

Comments and criticism always welcome!

It's a well caught and familiar :D... image Peter. I can see why that's you're fave too...

I've been away in Cambodia for a few weeks so a couple of my shots were taken out there. I hope you like them!

Week 5 - Speed

Taken from the roadside, panning to track the scooter.

This one's a present to myself at the end of a long day in the heat of downtown Phnom Penh.

I particularly like the effect of the people in the background in this shot.

Week 7 - People

A slightly sober one here, taken in the genocide museum. The headshots are records of people that were tortured by the Khmer Rouge.

EDIT- I know, a polariser would have been useful.

What a catch up. Some great images to bring yourself up to date with.

Speed - good sharp subject and nice motion blur in the background. Looks precarious at the very least and downright crazy of the woman on the back.

Present - well deserved after chasing old women on motorbikes :) I like the silhouette-like background a lot in this. Give it a little straighten though please ;)

People - Until you mentioned polariser I hadn't noticed the reflection. Engrossed by the subject and all the faces which tell a somber story.

Mechanical - best watch shot I've seen this week I think. Lighting and movement are perfect. Great way to finish your catch up

Great catch up Pete . . . and I reckon being in Cambodia gives you a good enough reason to fall behind ;)

Street : I'm a little late getting to this one, but second shot for me. I like the way that you've isolated the stationary photographer against the hustle and bustle. I'm sure there's something deep and meaningful there, but I'm too tired to think about it :D

Speed : Superb! I really, really like this. Good colours, fantastic feeling of motion and the main subject is really nicely focused.

Present : I like the idea of the colour against the dark silhouette, but I'm finding the background light a touch too bright for my taste.

People : That really is a sobering shot. I'm just shocked at just how young some of them are.
Whilst technically not the best of the set (the reflection that you already mentioned) I think that the subject matter gives it some real weight. IMO this has the most impact of all of them.

Mechanical : Lovely, crisp, clear . . . good detail and nice motion blur. One of the best watch shots that I've seen.

great watch shot blur is spot on

Some fantastic stuff here. I just love speed, and all the space around the subject seems to just make it work even better! Then there's people... again, I just love this! The reflections don't bother me in the slightest. It's interesting subject matter with some nice portraits within the pic itself, and it's a powerful image once you've read the text underneath.

Not so keen on the watch... been done too many times before.

Nice set of images your putting together. The set from Cambodia are excellent. I love the speed shot, that's a great piece of panning. Present is cool, lovely use of light and shallow depth. your People shot is a good idea although you are right a polariser would have been useful.
interesting shots, well done.

I like your Cambodia shots, the Speed shot being my favourite, that's good and sharp with a nice amount of motion blur :)

The People shot has quite an impact. I wouldn't have noticed the reflections tbh.

The Mechanical shot turned out really well - love the blur on the hands :)

Cheers everyone, thanks for all of your comments.

I'm really enjoying the challenge of a) thinking of shots to fit the themes and b) working out how best to implement the ideas, although I'll admit that it's the first part which is tending to take the most time then I end up rushing the actual shot!

And to make dlh happy... a new copy of the "Present" shot, a little straighter this time... :)

Hi :)

Love your speed shot! Really excellent :)

As has been said your 'People' shot although perhaps not your strongest image is one of the most thought provoking and to be honest I truly feel we can be too bogged down with being technically correct and forget that there is art and meaning to photography...thank you for sharing.

Your 'Mechanical' shot is superb, I love the timing you got showing the movement of the second hand....excellent :)

Pete, great catch up...

Speed... spot on

Present... Hmmm... bet that went down well... it's a good shot, but my first thought was along the same lines as Darren... it needed a straighten... it's because the beer wasn't showing level in the glass... although that has given me an idea ...

People... That's a sobering and frightening image. You've dealt with the content really well and the processing is spot on. You've already commented on the reflections.

Mechanical... that works well, the step motion is superb.
