Sorry for moaning on here, but I'm so so fed up. Haven't been able to take photos since December time, due to damaged and now extremely messed up neck muscles from a car accident in November.
All my muscles in my neck, head and face have stiffened up so everything hurts. I'm on co-codamol for the pain and I'm going on diazepam tomorrow to relax muscles so I can do physio.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this, and how long did it take to recover fully?

no idea, but hope you get better soon:hug:

Sounds painful. I've had a damaged neck due to a motorcycle accident for some time, and I still suffer from muscle spasms in my neck/shoulders from time to time. Nothing as bad as yours sounds though.

I always found that muscle relaxants worked well. When in pain, muscles tend to tighten up, squeezing the nerve resulting in - more pain ! Relaxing the muscles helps to prevent this (well that's what the Doc told me anyway)

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Steve

Yeah they're putting me on diazepam to relax my muscles, which on top of the codeine for pain means no work for even longer til I'm used to the side effects.
Got a medical for the insurance claim tomorrow, I'm a bit worried I'll hit the doctor if he tries to make me do stuff that hurts too much.

sorry to hear about this, is it off whiplash? i recall my mum having that after a car accident. hope you get well soon and back behind the camera :)

Ah hope you feel better soon!! Necks and muscles round that area can take quite a while to heal i'm afraid.... :( as long as you are doing what your doctor/physio says to do then that should hopefully speed up the process but it could probably take a good 2 or 3 months...

It can take quite a while but, if you can possibly do it, Relax. When something hurts you stiffen up to protect it - ie if it hurts you try and stop moving it. Do not do this, try and go floppy as the tenser you are the more painful it is.

I injured my back in my first job after I left school and every few years it got bad again. One time when I was in a plaster cast I managed to dislocate my neck while I was sleeping - which woke me up with rather a jolt as I felt as if someone had stabbed me though my shoulder into my neck! I still get problems from this and from my back (which was operated on a couple of years ago) and hips but if I can prevent it going into too much of a spasm which causes most of the pain (and Diazepam does help, as do exercises) then I can often control its severity. Being able to go floppy can help :)

Hope you feel better soon

Take cod liver oil capsules as well as Glucosimine and Chlorodrin tablets. I find that works great for any soreness and stiffness you may have in joints. It ain't all just muscle stiffness.

The only painkiller combination that has ever worked for me when I have had back/neck/muscle spasm pain is [ 50mg Diclofenac Sodium Enteric] taken in conjunction with [500mg paracetamol] and [30mg Codein Phospate].

Everyone is different and GP's have their own preferences on medicines, if your GP is the approachable type you could ask him/her if this combination would work for your ailment.

Had Diclofenac but it didn't help, I'm using Volarol gel now. I am keeping moving as much as I can.

Have you thought about going to a chiropractor? It's all well and good for your doctor to be treating the muscle spasms in your neck but if there's an underlying problem with any bones being misaligned (an x-ray should show this up) the muscles will continue to spasm, causing pain, until the bones have been realigned.

Hope it gets better soon.

most courses of physio are about 10 sessions /3 months long so could be a while but that really depends on how good you are at keeping up your exercise they will give.

Yeap tore the scalenes muscles in the left side of the neck and damage 3 facet joints 5 years ago.

Painkillers didnt touch it, the physio i saw at the time was trained in a few accupanture methods that worked a treat to help relax muscles and ease pain. To this day i still get issues with it requiring regularly treatment, also effect my left shoulder alot.

Ask your gp if it would be in your benefit to take Gabapentin, i have found it to be a godsend for my pain, if not try Dihydrocodeine they are very addictive but if prescribed in short and low doseage they might help you, good luck either way.

Sorry to hear of your pains and for being able to give any tips.

I hope you recover and put this past you sooner than later.

ouch - so sorry to hear of your troubles....

I was in a minor car accident a number of years ago and had whiplash to my neck. I put up with it for a number of years (and got compo on the way) and eventually found myself a fella that does deep tissue massage, he said that I had been 'holding myself wrong' for years and the muscles were in constant spasm, causing back pain, neck pain, head paid blah blah blah. It took a few trips before I began to feel the benefits but eventually it began to ease and I began to feel normal again.

I would highly recommend deep tissue massage to anyone with a known muscular complaint.

I have also learnt how to 'crack' my neck (release the build up of gases etc) which instantly relieves any tension that has built up.

Good luck - I hope you find a solution

Have things improved Laura?.

Hope you get better soon, did you see my Sympathy thread? Ha ha. Also, if all the face muscles have stiffened up, does that mean you're stuck with one facial expression until you fully recover? If so, please post a pic :D

But seriously, I hope you recover soon. Just keep moving and eat well.

Is it like cramp, that Satan himself created ?

Not good at all, hope it gets better soon! Took me the best part of a year to get full-ish movement out of my left arm after tearing the rotator cuff muscles in my shoulder skiing, and I've been signed off work the past 3 weeks after injuring my back. I feel your pain...
