In PS4 - How do you do a graduated exposure adjustment ?

I have an image that is correctly exposed in bottom left hand corner but from this corner to top right the exposure is too dark.

How do I do a graduated exposure adjustment. ?

A straight adjustment washes out the left hand corner (but the detail appears in underexposed area).

Could someone advise.

Im not sure what you mean exactly.

You could try duplicating the layer and then correct the exposure in the problem area on this layer.Then using a layer mask and the gradient tool drag diagonally from the corner and adjust opacity to suit.
 
Use an adjustment layer to alter the exposure (no extra pixels = no needless doubling of file size). Then press G to activate the gradient tool, make sure you've got your colours set to black and white (press 'D' to revert to default if they aren't). And simply click and drag from the corner to apply a mask.

You can then go in with a brush and touch up the mask manually if you need to.
 
Or you can make an exposure adjustment layer, and then use a layer mask to allow you to brush the corrections in to the spots that need it.

Ok I my understanding of PS is lacking here.

How do you create an exposure adjustment layer ?
It needs to be from bottom LH to top RH (no adjustment of exposure to a lot of adjustment)

Adjustment Layers are a basic feature of Photoshop!!

Go to the bottom of your layer palette, and run the mouse over the icons. When the dialog box says Adjustment Layers, click on that and it will give to a series of layers to choose from.

Choose exposure adjustment and make your changes.

Then follow Jayst84's instructions for the rest...
