You dirty lot.... I mean photography wise!

I seem to have lost the photography bug, so am in desperate need of some encouragement and inspiration. Since I finished the first year of my course in mid May, I haven't touched any of my photography stuff :( I have lots going on at the mo, and am trying to sort my immigration stuff out for Canada, get the house finished and deal with being in pain 95% of the time from my endometriosis (plus the probability of another op in August :'( )

Any ideas or suggestions as to how I can re-light my passion? It always seems to rain on my days off from work, and being Billy no-mates here, I don't have anyone to go out with. It's a little boring going out and about on my own. I did join the local ramblers club so I'd be able to combine the two, but a recent 9 mile walk sorta killed my feet and I'm still waiting for the blisters to heal in order to be able to take part in another walk :embarrassed:

aawww poor you + feet.

I aways find a trip to my local zoo / wildlife park enough of an excuse to get snapping again

:naughty:

your right you hooked me in then.... :p

make it your mission to get a shot you keep sayin you would like to do ..

i keep sayin ill get some water droplets but i never find the time......:naughty:

welcome to my world min :(

I tried some still life at the week end, it involved some nice red vine tomatos and a few other bits. The idea was perfect, the result was 60 shots that all look crap and now make me wonder if my 70-200 is soft as butter at 200 f2.8 :(

I thought your bits had been fettled now.......sorry to hear your still getting pain from it :(

more waking will sort the heels out..........start by walking up here, you can be my foto buddy :D

min ive a challenge for you and anyone else..:naughty:

pick a topic. and we will all take a pic of it or two..
then we chose the best one or most fav...
then i will get one printed a4 and stick it on the bay just to see what someone would pay for it .... sound interesting or not .
any profit goes to tp ... stop you being bored. and have a laugh on the way

something like .... wine glasses... plates .... knifes ans forks i dunno just a few ideas

Hey Min, sorry to hear! a day trip out somewhere is always good! the wildlife place in Lingfield looks good, how far is that from you? could meet you there! x x x

ps) just posted a couple of cute threads in animals & nature, they might make you smile? x x x x x x

:( Wish you had said this a week or two ago, I would happily have come over and joined you for a wander with cameras. Tied up now for next 3 weeks with visitor from down under down under. As I discovered yesterday, going out with other togs is great, you sort of bounce off each other and give each other ideas. However, maybe get out to somewhere you havent been before - if you are emigrating soon, perhaps plan somewhere here that you have always wanted to see and not got round to it. Oh, and get some salt water on those blisters before you go ;)

Hey min do you have a flashgun? get yourself some cheap ebay radio triggers (not the flash head ones eh lads ;) ) and get yourself over to strobist. The lighting 102 course started to day and there's a new lesson/project planned for nearly every monday.

Mini - As ladylens mentions, If you are planning on leaving the UK soon, why not start writing a big list of all those places you wanted to see in the UK and never got around to doing it. Could be local or far away and then plan some time (if possible) around some of those locations ... Apart from that treat yourself to some new glass :)

I'm often stuck for ideas when the urge to shoot something arrives. So I've started (wait for it - sad admission coming) scanning local charity shops for photography related books. Not the old 35m "How To" types, but the image library ones. I now have:
Getty Image Bank
Getty Image Ideas
3 x Zoom Special Editoins
The Thinking Photographer
Mastering Composition & Light
and loads of others.
In all probably 100,000+ images.
They're great because so much of it you can do at home (water splashing off your own hand, playing with water droplets, multiple images of self in rooms etc) - just look through them & think "I know how I can do that" & off I go!!

Min, I so wish you lived closer !
You really have my sympathies regarding the Endo.
I can only imagine what youre going through, but I do know that its hard to feel inspired when you can barely even walk!

For times when you can physically manage it, thats a good idea of LL's to go snap all those places that youve never got around to seeing before you leave.

If youre trapped home alone, you could always try DF's idea of some still life, or garden macro.
What about working on a self portrait ... or some abstracts?

Come on ... we want to see the fruits of your efforts now! ;)

Edit: Good idea about the charity shops... but all I ever see is Mills & Boon! :gag:

Some good ideas there - thanks :) I have a long awaited 2 weeks off work soon, so hopefully that will give me time to get out with the camera. I've put my order in for good weather too ;)

I have quite a good collection of photography books (I'm meant to be downsizing in preparation for my move to Canada, but not doing too well there) from both charity shops and a photography book club. I just never find the time to read them

There are lots of places I'd love to visit, but it's all down to having time and money, and I don't have much of either spare at the mo. Might rope Dave into a visit to Longleat or Monkeyworld soon though :)
