Never noticed this until the other night, when half pressing the shutter theres a count down meter bar, animated sticks that go into the middle, (only words to describe it) at the bottom of the finder, it lets you take a pic before it gets to the middle and after too.

whats it do?

That'll be the exposure meter. When the bar is in the middle that means correctly exposed, to the left is under-exposed and to the right will be overexposed.

Is that not your exposure meter?

Must type quicker!

I know what you mean.

It narrows down from the left and right side at the same time automatically once the button is half pressed.

e.g. M for middle by the way. lol

make sense?

But you can shoot anytime in this process and it doesn't seem to effect the pictures EV

That only ever happens to me when I have the flash up. And yes, it is the exposure meter.

I only see it with the flash on to.

what is the point of it though? why does it count down?

Never matters whet I take the picture it always comes out the same.

Robbo and his description is spot on.

I will check that as i can't recall if flash was up or down.

I even checked the field guide and couldn;t see a mention. lol.

thanks all, if its only when flash is up then i won't see it much.

its not something to do with the flash 'charging' is it?

and one the 'count down' has stopped its fully loaded?

just a thought.
