Hi all,

I am driving the family to Spain in July and need something to keep the kids entertained in the car.

I have a PSP and an ipod touch. One option is to put movies on the PSP and ipod touch for them to watch in the journey. My wife thinks that will make them car sick and clearly I don't relish the prospect of a few hundred miles in a car that stinks of vomit! :gag:

She thinks that a seat back screen would be better and I'm sure, as always, she is right.

The ideal solution would be a pair of screens that can be fed from either the ipod or the PSP, or maybe a DVD player for the car with seat back screens.

Can anybody recommend a solution?

ToysRus are doing a dual screen DVD kit for £100, would be worth it for the peace & quiet :)

^^^ be wary of those !

We had to send 2 back beofre settling on a refund !!

Might just be the one we bought, but it was rubbish and both lasted about an hour !!

Halfrauds do some at the same sort of price & they're doing 10% off if you reserve / collect

I have a pair of headrest screens driven by an Alpine DVA-100R. Overkill but superb, got stuck in traffic turning a 4 hour journey and all I heard from my little girl was "next film Daddy"

I previously had a tablet device but that required a lot of twisting to the back to change the DVD and the audio was pitiful.

Another idea is the headrest screens [mine were around £300 for the pair already in headrests] which take auxillary inputs. Mine will take any source via a phono lead and can be used with headphones meaning they can watch different films if you have more than one little monster :)

Trust me though, whatever you decide it's worth every penny to keep them quiet and stress free :)

Be wary of any screen where they don't list the resolution and viewing angles, cheap ones especially are likely to have very narrow viewing angles.

I got a pair of these a couple of years back (although I paid a lot more than they are now charging :bang:). No problems with this site and the dvd players are quite good in that you can join them together to watch one film or have each running independently.
They have quite a good selection on their site.

Cheers,

Nigel

You could just get a portable DVD player and buy one of the bags that suspends it between the two front seats. Then get a headphone splitter from Maplins so you can use two pairs of headphones. Equals one pair of happy kids :)

Now when I were a lad........

What's wrong with I spy

Thanks for the advice guys. Nigel that looks good.

I was also think about something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2X-7-Inches-Headrest-Pillow-TFT-LCD-Screen-Monitor-Car_W0QQitemZ120275459396QQihZ002QQcategoryZ32826QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And driving the screens from the ipod?

You are a legend, those look very similar to the ones I bought and I fancied another pair the wife's car and couldn't find them ;)

The problem with those not in headrests already is that they are a mare to fit and mean you cutting your headrest up :gag:

I had a nextbase tablet [link engeew posted] and this was ok but as I say, required you contort to get the next disc etc in.

Why you driving if you don't mind me asking? I am driving to either Spain or Italy in September!

Gary.

I've had a place in Spain for a few years, it's about an hour North of Barcelona in a place called Begur. We normally fly and hire a car, but this year we are going for three weeks (:woot:) so I thought we would try the drive. It means that we can take a few things for the house and bring back a few things (wine and food!) and we get to have our car rather than a hire car for three weeks.

It could be a disaster but it also means we get to avoid Ryan Air!

We are going down to Tuscany for a couple of weeks in August.

Previous 2 years we have flown, but this year we are driving (with 2 10 year olds and a 9 year old)....have just ordered those headsets from Argos....great find.

we are breaking up the journey and stopping over in Switzland for 2 days on the way down and Jura in France for 2 days on the way back. We are lucky though as we are only 20 minutes from Dover so not alot of driving to do this side of the Channel.

This is the first time we are driving so feeling very nervous..... could be 900 miles of hell each way!!

I spent most of my childhood/early teen holidays in Calella (5 mins from Begur)as my parents had a place there. Many happy memories.

25 years ago a friend and myself shared the driving non stop with our wingeing girlfriends wedged in the back of a Ford Capri. You can't please some women ;)

I'm hoping my kids will have the same fond memories.

20 years ago I shared a coach with 20 hairy arsed blokes from our University in Birminham to the slightly less sophisticated resort of LLoret de Mar. That wasn't a great journey...
