I read somewhere that its better to turn in camera sharpening off and do any sharpening thats needed once the pictures are on the pc (or mac). What is everyones opinions on this and what setting do you use?

Thanks :)

Basically it will make no difference to the final result - all you are doing is saving the computer in your camera from crunching the numbers and getting your desk computer to do it afterwards. There will be a bit of burst speed improvement from it, but that is all. The editing program is doing the same thing as the camera would have.

Turning off in camera sharpening isn't about increasing the burst rate on your camera. I doubt it makes any difference.

The idea is that you have control over sharpening. Idealy sharpening should be done as the very last step in editing. By sharpening in camera it's the first thing done. Also the camera can't selectively sharpen areas, you can on a PC.

It won't be the burst speed, it'll be the buffer increase. The images won't have to be sharpened before they are written to the memory card, so they can be quickly removed from the buffer.

I'd almost put money on it that the camera can sharpen an image faster than it takes to write it to flash, so the difference will be minimal.

People disable it not for any performance increase, but they want to control how much sharpening is done themselves, rather than let the camera do it for them.

If you're happy with the results in JPG mode, then leave it.

If you aren't, adjust it or switch it off or switch to RAW mode
