Hi All !!!
A couple of months ago i bought myself a Nikon D200 which is the first slr camera i have owned. I have found my way around the cameras many buttons but the practice shots were not the best, probably to do with exposure ???
I am just beginning to understand about shutter speed, f/stops, ISO, but need to know about the link and how they help make the photo.
To make things worse i aggreed to take some pictures at a friends wedding soon and don't want to to use my olmpus point and shoot for all the shots.
My wife says i have all the gear an NO IDEA ! and she's 95% right.
So should i tell my friend i have a contagious desease the day before the wedding ? or leave the nikon at home ? or try to understand ( with your help ) more about exposure ????????

Thanks _ John

I think you should tell your friend, to hire a pro, because you are not happy taking photo's of their once in a lifetime occasion, and you wouldn't want to possibly spoil their memories (not saying you will)

Friendships have been ended because of this sort of thing.

Tell them you are more than happy to take a few candid photo's but you don't want to be relied upon to be the main photographer

Just saying

I agree! Having done a couple of weddings I wouldn't put pressure on yourself as the main photographer, I did it as a favour for some of the Army blokes I served with as the weddings were arranged very quickly due to postings to the Gulf and Bosnia and I had some experience of doing Mess functions so they were happy to just have some pictures! However the photos are the one thing that everyone expects great things from and I have turned down the offer of doing a wedding and being paid some money because others do the job better and if I were you I would watch how things are done and you would probably take some great shots as all the guests relax around someone they know.

weddings are the most important shoots you may ever do, why risk running the day due to in-experience fella- call it off is my advise

Maybe down the line a bit with more experience under your belt you could probably attempt wedding photogtaphy

Just tell them you arent confident enough to do it. No point ruining thier day to try and make yourself appear something you are not.
Take your P&S and takes pictures by all means, but dont offer to be "the photographer" if you havent got a clue.

Back out now why you still have a chance. This is folly of the absolute highest order.

Do it. Whats the worst that could happen? You ruin all the shots you spoil the biggest day of there life they are no longer your friend they tell all there friends what a plonker you are they show everyone the photos everyone laughs at you every time they see you in the street etc etc.

jonny to be serious with you its not worth even thinking about. Their are guys on this site who have yrs and yrs experience and wont do weddings. You need a pro to do it. Nothing stopping you taking some too along side the pro then you can see how good/bad the photos would have been.

Its not worth losing your friends over or getting your confidence knocked.
