I noticed that the various camera suppliers are doing a promotion on Nikon gear and that £200 has come off the D850. I also note that after nearly two years of use, my Fuji X100V has only lost £200 over what I paid for it so that, combined with the trade in on my D810, has brought the D850 down to a level where I can just about justify it to myself. I briefly considered mirrorless but it just doesn't appeal, I like the clunk of a mirror and my experience with the Fuji's silent almost shutter leaves me cold for silent cameras (although I expect there is a way of making them produce a mirror noise but it won't be the same). If Nikon had seen fit to give the F adapter away with a new mirrorless it might have been a different matter but I'm not going to pay two hundred and fifty quid for a small metal tube that doesn't even have any glass in it.

Hopefully, I am about to buy my last ever camera (I am 69 this year after all).

You have justified it to me. Totally agree about the adapter thing.

In fact I've just had an email from Carmarthen Cameras with the D850 reduced from £2749 to £2429.
I bought mine grey though...

The D850 is an amazing camera - I just wish I could give mine the use it deserves (mobility issues).

I bought mine from Panamoz eighteen months ago (because of the three year warranty) and as you'd expect the price has dropped - now only £1,790.00.

I'm with you on mirrorless - they don't appeal to me in the slightest as I hate EVFs.

I sold my D810 soon afterwards, but wish I didn't. I've since picked up a D800E (nowhere near as good) to have as a spare . . .

I'm wondering about the D810 and whether or not to keep it, but then these things are pretty heavy and I'm unlikely to cart two large bodies around with me. If I have a 80-400mm on one and a 14-24mm on the other I'd be carrying about 6kgs, not exactly practical. If I need a spare, my wife has a perfectly good D5000, in fact I'm taking it out tomorrow as I won't have a camera at all by then.

WEX, who I'm trading with have it at £2529 but I'm going to ask them if they'll price match as LCE have it at £2429 as well, if not, I'll take the cash (strangely, the same amount) and buy it from them.

I have both the Z7 that excels at certain things and a D850 that I use for tripod mounted use, where weight does not bother me. I do a lot of Architectural photography with F mount shift and I prefer the more button led experience of the D850, which is still an amazing camera. It is totally silent in the live view mode, which can be a good thing where noise can disturb.

I bought my D850 used on here about a year ago and do not regret buying it, it is a tremendous kit but does highlight the limitations of me as a pretend photographer...

it made my D810 redundant.... but not the D500 (which is another tremendous camera)

I have a bit too much invested in F-glass and dithering on a 200-400/4VR2 or 500/4G for birding so I am in no rush to go for Z - I will wait for dust to settle on the Z8 line before making a move but it would be nice to have an ZTF adapter so that I could opt for the Z400/4.5.

Grays have the D850 for £2399.

Just get another D850 as a spare.

Echo the thoughts here entirely. Not sold on the mirrorless yet and the D850s I have do everything I need and do it very well indeed.

I just buy grey though like you. The UK prices seem very high.

Went to LCE in Plymouth today and part-ex'd my D810 and my Fuji X100V so I 'only' had to add another £900 to get the D850. It's coming from Holland so it should be here in about five days. LCE have it at £2429. Can't bring myself to do grey import. I liked the X100V but I found I was only using it to take opportune snaps rather than serious photography and I can do that with my old Panasonic or my phone so since the trade-in prices are pretty high for the X100V I thought I'd let it go sooner rather than later.
