Importing images into Lightroom

They will come off the card and be sorted in the order you set it to in the library module. What is normally most confusing is that it will order photos by date and then earliest ones first (I think). This means the photos are not contiguous at day boundaries (i.e. if you take photos at midnight, you'll get day A+1, midnight->day A+1 23:9 then day A midnight -> day A 23:59.

The best way to roganise is by date on import (let it do it automatically) and then tag with relevant data.

I'm not sure what you're saying, actually, Andy....

But just to give you an example, my most recent import appeared in the import window in the following order -

2042-2048,
2051
2057-2076
2029-2041
2019-2020
2012
2018
2017
2016
2015
2014
2013
2021-2022
2024
2023
2028
2027
2026
2025
2077-2092

The import process re-orders them numerically. But the process of getting there is a pain with selecting etc.....

What do you have the sort order set as (underneath the library thumbnail pane).

No, that's not it. They seem to sort themselves into numerical order during the import process.

Its during the previous stage. When they appear in the import window, they are all jumbled up.

It would save time and faff if I could just select them by numerical order there to import them into separate folders.

As it is I have to go through them and select them visually so that the right subject matter goes into the right folder on import.

EDIT : GOT IT!

I see there's a "sort criteria" selection at the bottom of the import pane as well!

many thanks for guiding me in the right direction.
