This has probably been covered a few times - and yes I did use the search function, but since I'm supposed to be at work I haven't time to trawl through all the various pasts hoping to comeacross the answer i need...

Some of my nude images - the ones posted here, so nothing too risque - have been deleted by Fotobucket - though others from the same shoot showing just as much have been left intact...
Any suggestions to a Hosting site that doesn't have stupid 'American Bible-Belt' sensibilities when it comes to imagery?
I'm prepared to pay for something that allows me a decent amount of space, keeps the exif and file-info data intact and doesn't auto-compress images.
 
Flickr will host ANYTHING and a pro account [unlimited space] is about £18, depending on exchage rate [charged in US Dollars], retains all exif, you can set pics to public or private and even private ones can be hotlinked elsewhere. Not sure about auto-compresion, I onlu upload 800px anyway, which seem to be fine, but I suspect it does do some compression especially on arger file sizes


edit: there is always the option of a hosting package of your own of course, though that could be a faff but with something like zenphoto or other gallery software installed, should make it less painful.

Otherwise, there are places that do the package for a cost, zenfolio, that kind of thing, but never used them as I have my own hosting package, I am sure someone can advise on them though.
 
Why not go down the line of your own webspace?

I use hosting from a company I found on eBay.....£3.99 for lifetime hosting and unlimited.

Have a look at pixelpost as well for making galleries as it's simple to use...or if you have Lightroom....make a web gallery from there.

The hosting also comes with Gallery which can be made to suit your needs.

Are you sure they were deleted because of content?
I've got images on Photobucket that would be considered too explicit for the rules of this forum, (but are allowed on a large U.S centric forum that I use).

P.s I don't have a pro account either, at least i don't think I do :shrug:

Red squares instead of thumbnails and a note inside them saying it's 'broken site regs' - even though the previous and next images taken in that sequence are still there, showing just as much - just nipples, no 'downstairs area', bit of side-boob and side-bum views...
 
flickr is good and you can upload a full size image. IQ is pretty good too
 
Flickr seems the way ahead - I'm uploading loads of stuff now and will delete the Fotobucket images... so previous submissions here in the Photos sections will all disappear - those that I can remember - and if they're still being viewed, I'll swap the links around...
 
I use Pbase. very good, cheap storage and designed for photographers
 
If you after something a bit more slick look at Zenfolio. A subscription site, about £15 a year for the basic package, but essentially your own web space with your name in the url, loads of templates, easy upload, security options etc.

It's good for hosting images. One thing that they do ask though, out of courtesy is that any image you post outside of flickr you make it link back to it's flickr page, which seems fair enough.

I use it to put most of my photos that don't make it to my personal website.

The permissions settings come in handy also if you want to make some images private.
 
i moved from DeviantArt to Flickr, and within 3 hours i'd upgraded to a Pro account.

not looked back.
 
Deviant art is a showcase site so it does'nt matter to much. But what do you get with flickr pro?

Can you customise your backgrounds or is it boring white with Flickr logo everywhere?

If it is then why go for it if you can not personalise it?

Recrudasce why would you want it when it has Flickr and Yahoo at the top???? Does not look like a pro site......

Looks like Photobox and the like... I don't get it, sorry.
 
I use both Flickr and Zenfolio.

Zenfolio certainly looks a lot nicer, you have a choice of different themes. Then of course, the more you pay per year the more customising you can do. But even on the 'basic' plan ($25/yr I think) there are a lot of different security and display options. You can make certain albums private for example.

My Flickr is due for renewal in 2 weeks and I'm unsure whether to pay out for it again...

why use Hotmail when it has a Microsoft logo on it and you cant change the background ?
why use Gmail when you cant remove the Google logo ?
why use TP when you cant remove the TP logo ?

you're applying personally designed and maintained site concepts towards SaaS sites such as Flickr, Yahoo, MSN, Google etc. not everyone has the time, inclination, experience or capabilities to find a hosting provider, design the layout of the site, build the site, and then maintain it.

Flickr allows people to portfolio their work easily and get comments and feedback. remember, not everyone wants to change (or even cares about changing, for that matter) the background on Flickr/Hotmail/Photobox.

if you're a professional and want to have your own site, then i agree, Flickr isn't what you should use if you're that anal about there being a teeny tiny Yahoo logo shown, and the background being white.

or would you rather have a situation where sites such as Flickr dont exist, therefore resulting in people only being able to showcase their work if they spend a lot of money and time doing so ? that's a bit harsh if you ask me, Daryl.

edit: also, look at how many people are using Facebook to promote their products now ?

:thinking: Why would you want to personalise Flickr? If you want something really personal, you go for your own hosting, or at best one of the paid for dedicated sites. The point of a 'Pro' account is surely for most people the unlimited space rather than any personalisation? I have both, a flick account for dumping loads of stuff I want to share with friends, family, TP'ers, etc and a personal hosting account and domain which is kept for the 'shiny' stuff and costs me considerably less than it would if I stored everthing on my flickr account on it.
 
fotopic.net lets you flag adult content.. never had the need myself but it shows they are aware and presumbly its ok.

oh and dont believe anyone who tells you something is unlimited.. it never (and I do mean never) is unlimited..
 
deviantart and flickr also allow you to flag the content type.
 
Thats why I'm asking, guys.... I have 3 sites and wondering why you would want to use flickr and the like.... some one said to dump loads of images and a few view them, makes sense now . I was looking at it from showing clients point of view. I would not want clients seeing all the 3rd party hosting.


If it's for general chit chat 'show an tell' then fine. I was just wondering about the thinking of togs that use it thats all.

Daft reply that....... They are private not added for you show public so it does not matter. TP is a chat site and not linked to me gaining clients.
 
not really. if you are expecting a professional site, why pick up your email via a third party system that puts "HEEEEY ! This email was sent via HOTMAIL !!!" at the bottom of your emails to clients ?

same concept.

You don't get it because you don't understand the original posters request.
 
flickr makes perfect sense for a number of reasons. It's not as badly infiltrated by MySpace cam style pictures as some other photo sharing networks. The site is also extremely fast and has a large social networking element to it. It's a great place to put images that you might not necessarily want on your website if they don't make the grade. There is a fantastic API too which enables you to build your own applications using content on Flickr. You can also hotlink images from Flickr... granted you are meant to link the image back to the photo page.

I'm not entirely sure but I think Arkady was just looking for somewhere to put his images. I don't think he's too concerned about the Flickr or Yahoo branding.
 
Get your own webspace and just link it from there? I do that...

I have Flickr but its a bit of a pain to use for posting on here, because they don't offer a convenient size of 800px on the longest edge, the closet under the limit is 512px which if you have a good shot can be the difference between it looking great and just another click of the back button.

I'm just uploading most of them pre-resized at 800px and under 2mb...it's all I need it for - good enough to view online and as a host for posting later on here...or I'll just post the link - since some lazy 'burgers' can't be bothered to follow a link, only those who are really interested will bother to look anyway...lol :D
 
I find Facebook album's works well. I can share stuff with pals on Facebook and include images in posts here quickly at the right size (I just right click on the image and use copy image location).

I've tried FlickR, just didn't get on with it. Photobucket I always found to be extremely slow to use. Have my own webspace but its a pain to maintain multiple album's / gallaries and have also worked with Picasa, but it doesn't output direct links to post here (unless I've just not found it yet).
 
i use uploadhouse.com you have to join but that is free and i have never had a pic deleted yet. I also use it on other sites.

If wanted i can get a list of sites for this for you all to check out.

I had the same issue - lots of images that I'd had there for a long time - a couple of years in some cases - were arbitrarily deleted the week before last... Hence my switch to Flickr...I'm still migrating what's left over to the new site - the remainder will have to wait til I get home next year and dig out the old hard-drives and DVDs with the RAW files on...
 
Well, they haven't so far... they just flag your account as having "adult" material.

I think if they were going to get all "fundamentalist" they would have done by now...

:agree: Do some "adult" searches on Flickr. Unless you're a complete sexual deviant they won't delete your images. :gag:
