Hi all,

I have a quick query...

I know the camera and lens I want to start out with (and am patiently waiting for the Jan sales).

I'm not sure what to do about image editing software though. Is it a must have from the beginning, or does this come later?

Also, there are so many different type of photoshop (which I prefer to PSP I think) and I wouldn't know what is best for me.

Any advice is, as always, very much appreciated!! :)

1. Don't worry too much about software at the start of your hobby.
2. Try the Gimp, it's free and is a good intro into the world of editing. :)

You should get basic editing software with the camera
PSP is a good programme I used PSP photo XI for quite awhile until I was given Elements 5
Then moved on tho CS3 but It seems no matter how much you spend on software none does it all, or some have other "useful" bits" than others
"Picasa" is another free one (from Google) thats basic but useful

Although I use Photoshop, I would suggest that for someone starting out Elements is a good place to start. Although Elements lacks some of the functions that it's big brother has, it will give you a good grounding in image manipulation and control.

You might even find that you get a copy with your camera.

The best piece of advice I can give, is to get one of the introductory books that are around. Learn the basics from this and progress from there. You may find that at the end of the day Elements does all you need and there is no need to upgrade to Photoshop itself.

If you get stuck there is always help at hand on this forum

Enjoy

Hey Cutsie,

I agree with Chappers 100%, no better starting place than Adobe Photoshop Elements.

It will help with any quick fixes but also once you build up your confidence you’ll be able to a lot more customization / design work. Then if you want to take your hobby to the next step then purchase the full blow Photoshop application.

If you don’t get a copy of elements with your camera, check out Amazon and go for an older version, a lot cheaper and as your just starting out the savings in cost will be good.

Not long to the Jan sales and you’ll be out snapping everything and anything!!!

If you need more help you know where to post. :notworthy:

Cheers Pickles
