Looks OK on my screen

Look absolutely fine on mine too! But you have (must, if they are prints!) scanned them to post, so they may have been lightened in the process, and thats what we are seeing.
Put your prints next to the screen with the pics on and see if you can see any difference!

You really can't do that unless you have a calibrated monitor and controlled ambient lighting. A lot of monitors are run too bright. A lot of rooms are poorly lit. Then again, a sunlit room can be dazzling. The monitor emits its own light. A printed image relies on ambient light to make it visible. In a darkened room a monitor will look dazzling, but a printed image will be almost invisible. The point is, you can't just compare like that.

My advice would be to look at the histogram for your images and see whether you are making full use of the dynamic range. Since I did not see the originals I don't know what the photso should look like, but the histogram will show the truth, whether your monitor is calibrated or not. If you have a large gap to the right of the histogram there is a good chance your images are too dark, but without knowing the content of the scene it is impossible to say for sure.

Can you upload a screen print showing the original file(s) with an RGB histogram included? There is no point looking at scans of the prints or photographs of the prints. I need to see what you sent to Tesco. Better yet, can you post up the original files and I'll take a look at the histograms myself.
