Hi all I'm after one 4gig ram card for a 2008 iMac 20" it's running 4 gig ram at min I have read this CAN be run up to 8 gig but becomes unstable
So mixing 2 gig and 4 gig board is a nice combo so I'm after just one 4gig am new to Mac and the choice of ram is mind boggling unsure which I order any help greatly appreciated

visit the Crucial website and they have a little program that runs to check your system and what you can put in it. They are a fab company and i have used them for all my macs to date.

Yep. But I think you're maxed out already.

I guess it's worth a shot, especially as it's your machine not mine, but as far as I've read it's unproven whether it makes any difference as the iMac can't do anything much with the surplus RAM. I don't think it will do any harm and it would be interesting to know if you can see any difference. Go to the Crucial site they are your best bet. Incidentally they used to sell double packs for the 16gig iMacs when the word was you could install 32 on them but then they stopped suggesting it as an option.

Yea I have done a bit of looking into it and they officially support 6 gig and unofficially 8 gig so not sure
If I'm honest it's pretty fast at min well a lot faster than my Asus x550c 6g 1tb laptop like 10x faster but a little more ram for ps and lr would be nice
Il check them out many thanks

I'm pretty sure a friend has upgraded his older iMac to 8GB - when it was said 6 was the max and he has no issues at all - think it's a similar age to yours...

Yea I have heard a few that are fine and a few that are unstable over 6 guess there only one way to find out :)

Crucial have a tester on their site that will assess what your machine can take and recommend the right stuff, give it a try.
