Evening all,

I have the above iMac screen, which I use for my raw processing through Lr Classic & PS.

Now for my level of photography, I have no desire to use specialist calibration hardware, as I don’t print, I only upload my pics to web/social site or view locally.. however I have been looking at the inbuilt Display Profiles and have found one that has made my screen look a lot better! 'sRGB IEC61966-2.1'

Its no where near as flat looking as what I was using, which was the default 'iMac' profile, but it is also not over vibrant like some of the other profiles are, which if im right is better for photography not to be too vibrant?

So my question is, is this one that is used by others in a similar situation as me, or is it recommend to use any of the other in built profiles?

Also is the default profile called ‘iMac’ really that flat looking, it’s like all the colour has been saturated out of it? I though Apple calibrated their displays?

Thanks

Mac's do have a built-in calibrator, also bear in mind that everybody's vision is different.
Ahh yes I did see that, but that’s very true too. I suppose for me, where I’m only processing for web & local screen use, I just need to pic a pre set profile from the list, and just make sure that after processing an image they look at least decent on a number of different screens.

I suppose hardware pro calibration is brilliant if your printing or using multiple screens in say a studio portrait set up, but for me just posting online, every screen that views it is not going to be calibrated, so as long as it’s half decent it should be fine, which tbh up to now thankfully everyone has liked my images :)

Please stop doing whatever you are doing as it completely destroys any accuracy you may have had. Mac's come with pretty decent factory calibration so you could do a lot worse than leaving it well alone (night mode disabled!)

Considering you bought a very expensive Mac I am sure you could also invest a fraction of that into a dedicated device...

Thank you, I think maybe I should just revert it back to its original factory display profile then, as you say at least can’t go wrong to that extend then :)

Then if I’m the future I do want to go further with colours, then look at a device. Thank you
