I have the Lencarta Backlight light stand Here that i find really useful as I'm working in a small space. What I like about it is that the foot print is fairly small compared to a usual tripod type stand.

Only thing is it doesnt go very high, does anyone know where I can get one that would higher?

The fact that it doesn't go very high is the whole point of it...

If you want a higher one the cheapest answer would be to buy a 'normal' stand for the times when you need more height and just use whichever stand suits.

The only other method I know about is to get a sliding arm stand (Manfrotto make them and TFC sell them for use with their big Octaboxes, they're big and expensive but can adjust from almost ground level right up to max height. You may have seen one in my studio.

Cheers Garry, the reason i want something with a small footprint is simply so i can get it closer to the wall when using as a rim light with strip softbox as I'm in a very restricted space.
I keep looking for ways to maximise my space but i think the answer is MOVE HOUSE!

What about the Trek-Pod ................ that has small feet and you can put the flash on top. I have used mine it for this, possibly a smaller base than a lighting stand?

something with a small footprint that went high would almost certainly fall over with the slightest knock, and studio heads tend not to bounce! I have a calumet one which is similar and at its highest is still a bit wobbly, I have a 5kg dumbell weight over the stand and it's not going anywhere now

Yes I'm aware of the wobble implications...I've got plenty of weights i can attach to it....just need to find the bloomin thing!

other real alternative is a manfrotto (or similar) autopole, which is a telescopic pole that you basically extent and it wedges between the floor and the ceiling, and then has a spigot that you can move up or down it.

Think there's a painter's or decorator's equivalent for less money too, just add a superclamp and offset arm and you're laughing.
