I'm absolutley shocked at what I've just read on BBC News, this just goes to show how much of a sorry state the UK's finances are.

It's alright for the bankers to keep their cushy houses, pensions, and whatever else they don't deserve, yet the core services that are vital, in this country are being cut, Surely there must be a load of pen pushers in whitehall that do nothing that can be made redundent to save money. Not cease training for 6 months in the TA. These people serve in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places, what happens if they get called up to serve, yet they havn't trained for 6 months??? Maybe I'm over reacting, I don't know.

MoD has 1 clerk for every 2 soldiers! Seems to be a bit of slack there.
Not be surprised if the entire gov.admin is overmanned.

Actually most non-deployable TA soldiers only train about 27 days a year on average - this is to stop all the fat chefs, clerks, tiffys, MT-wallahs and storemen going in to the TA centre during weekdays and claiming extra Man-Training-Days on top of organised Training Weekends...

Anyone deploying gets all the Training time they need - it's a re-allocation of resources, not a cut-back...

They way the BBC put it, sounds as if the training is being cut, with the sole purpose of saving money, not re-allocating it. The fact they have to do it at all gets right on my wick!!!!!

thats cos thats how the media works

I couldn't care less about the bankers. The bonuses make headlines, but relatively few people actually get massive ones, and their salaries and pensions are funded by the private sector in normal times.

I'm far more concerned about the huge, and expanding, civil service with it's increasingly generous salaries, conditions and gold plated final salary pensions (unfunded). The taxpayer has to foot the bill for all of this, and it's going to be a drain on the ecomony for a very long time. There's a lot of talk about salary freezes, but no political party is going to take the risk of alienating such a large block of voters by implementing a serious cull, to get rid of all the non jobs and dead wood. After all, the civil service doesn't actually cost them anything, because they're spending other people's money, and they can always increase taxes if necessary.

there has always been a limit on MTDs & you couldn't just go in & claim a day's pay without a reason.
most of the storemen etc. are civvies anyway.

Nothing wrong with bankers getting huge salaries. With large salaries comes spending - cars, on the home, leisure... even having a pro take pics of the family!!!

As long as they actually 'earn' their money then fair enough
