So firstly, this is another Hello. I've not been on here for a long time!

Back in November 2010 I joined the RAF, and whilst going through all the training, I had no time for photography, and therefore lost my enthusiasm. I sold my 500D and 50mm on here a while back, and have pretty much regretted it since! I replaced that with a basic point and shoot, and whilst I get on with that very well, i've been lusting after the SLRs again.

Now i'm settled in the RAF and am doing my job (and loving it) i've got more time for photography again. That brings me onto my search for a camera.

I'd like to open it up to you more clued up people on here to help me. I bought my 500D 3 years ago having done practically zero research and just jumped into it. This time, i'd like to do some more looking and make sure I get something thats going to serve me well and last me!

I'm looking at the second hand Canon market. Canon specifically as I still have a couple of Tamron Lenses in Canon fitment i'll use. (Also i've realised i'm quite brand loyal )

Looking at maybe the 40D / 50D or something like the 600D?
The main things i'm going to be using it for is at car shows. I regulaly attend VW shows and Goodwood Festival of Speed. Also just taking shots of my cars etc.

Looking to get the basics, the body, battery, a strap for between £300 to £400.

Any help you could give will be greatly appriciated!

Thanks

Hi Pete

The 40/50D as you know are a step up from the xxxD range and you should be able to pick one up in your price range (certainly a 40D). They are better built and have a higher FPS than your 500D you used to own. They are a larger body and can feel / fit in your hands better, as well various other enhancements...

If you are looking 2nd hand, I'd opt for one of these, a step up from your previous model and should do you nicely for a good while.

Hope this is of help...

Unless your looking to buy 2nd hand that sort of budget would probably only get you new Canon 1100 kit, or nikon or sony equivelant.

The xxD bodies are certainly better built than the xxxD range and you can pick up the 40D for the middle of your budget at MPB http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/us...non-digital-slr-cameras/canon-eos-40d-111114/
I've bought and sold to them and can honestly reccommend them highly and that would give you enough change for a card and a bag to store it. Add this to the lenses you already have and you'd have a decent set up for not a massive investment.

Thanks for the replies. I've bought myself a 40D from the classifieds on here :) Can't wait to get it and have a play now!

Dangerous bryan: the thing with Canon model numbers is the lower the number, the higher the spec. So bottom of the pile is the 1100D for basic beginner stuff, going up to the likes of the 7D the 5D and the 1D which are pro spec cameras.

Bear in mind the 40D will be alot older and you'd be looking at buying used as they don't make them new anymore.

I've just picked up a 40D body and grip and batteries for £295, which, in my mind, is absolute bargain :D

No, the 40D doesn't do video
