What has happened to Chicken Bovril?
I can't find it anywhere and I'm down to the last scrapings in the jar.

If anyone knows where I can get some from please post a link here.

@soupdragon This from another forum on 3/11/21 which may be good news ...

Hello from Bovril,

Thank you for your recent comments to us regarding Bovril Chicken Extract.

There’s been an increase in demand for this product this year, so we’ve unfortunately had to prioritise production of some of our Bovril products. I can confirm that Chicken Bovril will be back soon. I'm sorry that we are unable to provide a specific timeframe.

I do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and once again thank you for contacting us.

Should you require more information, please feel free to contact us by email or webform via the following link: https://www.unilever.co.uk/contact/

Yours sincerely,

Karen

I've tried all the major supermarkets with no luck.
I just assumed it was a covid/supply chain thing.
I guess I'll have to phone them direct.

Well, I wrote to the consumer engagement centre.

Here is a transcript.

Hello. I have been unable to find Chicken Bovril in any supermarkets or online stores. Believe it or not, this is particularly distressing for both my family and I. Chicken Bovril has been a family staple for more years than I can remember and the thought of never tasting that chickeny deliciousness on hot crumpets again leaves me with a heavy heart.

I now face the dilemma of whether or not to freeze the remaining scrapings in my last jar and only to bring it out at Christmas or, eat the lot in a blaze of glory as a final farewell.

Please tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel as heavy drinking is no substitute for quality cuisine.

Yours soulfully.

Tony.

Chicken Bovril?
I've never heard of it..

It's delicious.

I liken it to Kim Kradashian and Kylie Jenner pole dancing on your tongue.

It'll be a bit crunchy on toast though.

Mash a bit into some butter and spread on your crumpets? Might work until you can find the real thing!

Couple of spoons of it mixed with a couple teaspoons hot water for a thick mixture

It's 4 teaspoons to 300ml water for gravy, I often mix it a lot thicker with much less water as I like it thick - never tried on toast to be fair but worth a shot for yer crumpet

I to have never heard of chicken bovril.

I have never heard of chicken Bovril either and I do not like the sound of it. I do not like chicken gravy either.

More of a cat person me, and I don't even want to imagine going there!

Unilever got back to me.
They say they are going to go back into production due to high demand.
They did not say when.

One crumpet at a time.

I think that was Joan Bakewell some years ago...

I suppose in her day "Crumpet" would have been applicable.

And I panicked when the local Tesco stopped stocking Ambrosia Macaroni.... that was the end of the world for me....

Thankfully found some in Morrison's in Bude and in Colwyn Bay... I did notice the label colour had changed from brown to orange. Did try their Semolina, wasn't bad..

and breathe....

One of the best things about going swimming to the local pool as a lad was the Bovril from the vending machine in the reception area on the way out, albeit the beef variety. That little cup with the powder in the bottom falling into place, then topping up with boiling water used to fascinate me as a 10 year old. I preferred the powder version to the syrup version. You can buy those little cups in the likes of B+M nowadays.

I've never tried the chicken one.

gloop left over, that can't even be used in sausages.
Do beef sausages even exist nowadays?
I've not seen any in a very long time..

Pretty sure they have them in Sainsbury's.

Crossed posts!

At least in my Sainsburys they do.
TBH I don't shop in Sainsbury's there isn't one local.
Not seen any in Tesco, Aldi or Iceland, here at least.
