Hi all, i'm after buying a new laptop its mainly for browsing internet but will be used for photo editing when i can. The wife runs a business doing cake decorating and does trade fairs so she will need to take it with her to display photos and doing her accounts etc. I wouldnt mind spending in the region of 400-550, however its a bloody mine field and I aint got a clue what to buy!! Ive been to the obvious places like pcworld comet and both just tried to sell me the managers specials. Has anybody got any recommendations? as to what I am best buying I understand hard drive space (bigger the more storage) and the ram (again the bigger the better) but I dont understand processors.

If somebody doesnt mind pointing us in the direction of a few deals?

Rob just got the TJ65 Packard from Comet, great spec for editing
 
If you get in quick Toshiba are doing a rather fine deal on some of their Laptops (ends 31/03/10)

If it goes wrong in the first 12 months, not only do they repair it. but they also refund your money

Must be confident to offer that sort of guarantee, my daughter has a Qosmio F50 and it is very nice, great sound too

Have a look on their official website, even the 2 year extended warranty was good value for an extra 50 quid. Don't usually get them, but couldn't argue at that price, only works out at 50p a week
 
Toshiba are very good got one for sale Toshiba salellite L500 -19X fantasic spec my daughters 1 month old boxed £400.
 
What about trying Dell? They make very good equipment.
 
I've been looking for a new laptop, found one on Misco. The Compaq 615 - with £100 cashback from Compaq until the end of this month. I has Windows 7 pro, 3Gb of Ram, then create a quidco account and get another 4.5% back from them!
 
Have you checked any of the other what laptop threads, there are quite a few out there...
 
thanks for all the replies guys, I currently have a Toshiba satellite I have had nothing but problems with it. The memory has failed on it so had to replace/upgrade it, and the built in wireless connection just gives up for some reason! ive spent abit more time looking found ebuyer doing a deal on a samsung 3gb 2.1ghz 320gb for £460. just trying to convince the wife that its worth the extra 100quid compared to the purple one she liked in comet :thinking:
