Hi

Im a new owner of a G9 this is my first proper camera so in the new year i will be taking my time and learning how to take some nice pictures,But its xmas so im going to want to take some pictures of my family:) Then i will be going to boots to get them printed at 6x4 so they will go into my photo album.

So what should i have the resolution set to for 4x6 prints? Ive been doing a search on google and i see the word DPI popping up saying you need to alter that as well but i cant see that in the camera.

Final question for now,I hear auto is not a good one to use so the next best one is (P) So just for xmas is there going to be any basic setting i should have so i can have some nice shots for xmas.:)

Thank You All:):)

Use the highest resolution the camera will allow. Not all will be used in a 4x6 print, but there is no harm in having more.

P-mode is good for a beginner. You wont go far wrong with this mode! The only thing it wont do is fire the flash even if it would help. You would need to activiate the flash manually.

If you want to have fun and experiment then try some of the Tv and Av modes. I havent the space here to explain exactly how these work I'm afraid. There are some good books available on the subject though.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

For christmas partys and such I would use the P mode with flash set to auto.

The G9 is a grat bit of kit

Dot per inch:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dots_per_inch

Its basically for printing and i beleive you set this in Photoshop (your post processing stage) in order to print it at its best potential.
It cannot be set in-camera.

Thanks all:)

Well the Dot per inch is out of the way no wonder i couldn't find it...Sounds like i was right about P mode being good so is there any tweaking i need to do in the Pmode settings? And do i have to have the iso set to anything or should i just leave it on auto?

Cheers:)

well thats completely up to you really Jem, And it all depends on what light you have available to you.

It is worth looking at the first few shots you take and if the camera is struggling to take a picture quick enough, then wack the ISO up :)

What a xmas day i had

First our normal film camera stopped working then i couldn't get my video camera to work i got that to work in the end,Ive used the G9 but i think i may of had the iso to high at 400.

Apart from that it was a good day:)
