I'm a muppet, can't do watermark in Gimp, any other software recommended?

Hi all,

I know that there have been numerous threads on this and i am very sorry, but having major dificulties making a simple watermark that i can add to my photos.

I have tried copying the ones for Gimp that you can see when you google watermark help, but for some reason after the first couple of steps, i am left in no mans land, not knowing where to go next. Earlier today, i uninstalled Gimp and reinstalled it, on the off chance i had missed something, but still no joy.

Should i be using a plug in of some description?

I am more than happy to try a different (free) photo editing software, if you can recommend an easier one, as it seems i really am useless at this.

It doesn't bode well for me if i am struggling at this stage, do they do a Gimp for absolute proper dummies book....:help:

You create a new brush with your watermark information in it.

First, check the location of your brushes folder by clicking Edit-->Preferences, then look under Folders on the left hand window. Expand that and click on Brushes - this will show you where gimp looks for its brushes. You can change that to another folder or leave it alone - just remember the folder's location as you need to save brushes into that folder.

Create your watermark brush as follows:
1. File-->New. I used a size of 400x200 and clicked on Advanced Options, then selected a Transparent image.
You can change the brushes size later on if you need to.
2. Add any images or text to this brush. e.g. for text, click the Text tool, select the font face/size, click on the image and type some text into the box.
3. File-->save and save this new brush into your brushes folder (see above for its location) with a filetype of gih , eg MyWatermark.gih - remember to give the new brush a useful description too.

Then refresh your brushes or restart gimp.


Open the picture that you want to add the watermark to.

To add the watermark, click the brushes tool and then click on the watermark brush that you created earlier. You can decrease its opacity (perhaps to under 50%) and it will probably look better. You can also change its scale to make it smaller/larger if you wish.

When you click on your picture your watermark will appear at that place in the photo.

This is really doing my head in now, can make the brush but it doesn't save where i want it to, doesn't give me the option to change the file extension either.
What am i doing so wrong here??????:help::help::help::help:

Is Gimp still open? it may be the brush file is locked while gimp is working, have you tried rebooting the computer then renaming?
 
You could try File-->Save As
instead of File-->Save
