i can process film at home. but have nowhere to set up my enlarger and bits.

at focus i was given a envelope to have my film developed and prints by ilford themselves.

as they said we should know what were doing! agreed

has anyone used the service and whats the verdict?

as i shoot mostly at night and push the film [they charge extra for that] i made the price from them for 1 film.

to be £30 quite steep

but worth it if they do a good job

i guess that no ones tried it or interested then

I have two of their mailer envelopes on my desk - i've not used them before, previous 120 roll film has gone to peakimaging, 35mm i've tended to stick to the C-41 process films and just used Tesco or Asda (with varying success in terms of print quality, but negs developed fine on all occassions).

Buying the mailers via www.7dayshop.com saved me about £2 each over the Ilford website costs too http://www.ilfordphoto.com/wheretobuy/page.asp?n=145

I've tried it and had excellent results but that was quite some time ago they came back nice and puncy in 6x4 format with a small border.

I worked in a shop at the time and The Ilford rep gave me an envelope for nothing to give it a go. How much is it these days??

I mainly shoot B&W on film and develop it myself.
When I'm shooting I have an idea of how I'm going to develop the film and how I'm going to make the prints - I don't think a lab could replicate this in terms of pulling/pushing the exposure or adjusting ratios to get the exact look I'm looking for as they weren't there when I took the photo.
As for printing, they might do a great job of hand printing on FB paper, or they might scan, curves, levels, print on inkjet - in which case at £30 a shot you could recoup the costs yourself in 20 rolls and get great quality.
Have you looked for camera clubs near where you live that have darkroom facilities? I use the enlargers at www.thecameraclub.co.uk

its cost a total of £32 with a cd and extra set of prints

i shot a band on weds night but the light was so bad with my poor eyesight i really struggled to focus manualy[i had practised at home].
after one film at 1600 asa i went onto my d700 at 3200 and 6400.i cant

believe how relieved i was to have the nikon d700 as i knew i could at least get something usable

they had said the lights would be fixed which is why i did it

anyway the bands was up for an experiment so cant wait to see what Ive got...;)

'Kin 'ell mate I didn't notice the cost last time I scanned this thread.

£30 for one roll? Jeeez. If you can dev at home but can't darkroom get yerself a flatbed scanner and scan the negs.

OK it hasn't got quite the soul as darkroom enlargements but at £30 a roll you'll get yer money back after 5-6 rolls of emulsion.

Seriously check out your local camera club or college. A lot now are setting up 'friends of the darkroom' clubs to use the facilities.

When I first saw the envelopes I'm pretty certain they were around £6 to £8 shocked at that £32 price tag. Better off getting XP2 or CN400 and putting it through the C41 soup at that cost
