Walking through Bakers Wood this morning, at Stockgrove Park, near Leighton Buzzard. Lots of birds singing, sun shining through the trees; so I stopped to take it all in. Suddenly there was an almighty THUD!
About 10 feet away, just to the side of a tree was what looked like a lump of wood. It had fallen from the tree, and landed on the carpet of leaves. As I watched it for a few seconds, trying to figure out what it was, it moved; and scarpered up another tree.
A squirrell! He didn't seem none the worse for his fall, and began jumping from branch to branch again. Couldn't beleive what I'd just seen. And I thought they were expert tree climbers

Maybe I should invest in a 'hard hat' just in case

I guess he had been out on the beer the night before
Don't drink and leap I guess is the watch word
More seriously I have seen that happen in the past when they leap to a small branch that is rotten, they put their weight on it, it snaps and gravity takes over :D

I think it was mentioned in one of the David Attenborough programs that most of the monkey skeletons that are found show signs of broken bones.

Gravity can be a bit of a problem sometimes :D

Had my windscreen broken on one of the tree lined lanes round here, stopped to see what had hit and there was a flat headed squirrel on the side of the road.

Thanks for the comments :)
Was something I'd never seen before. I suppose even 'experts' make mistakes from time to time :D
