If you could only have one lens.....

Are we restricted to pickin ANY lens in the world, or do we have to choose only one from our own kit?

From my own equipment it would have to be the 300f2.8IS from any I would go for the 500f4IS.

I will own both one day.

From my own equipment, the 18-55mm kit lens. :D

If I could have any lens, I'll have more than 1 cause 1 lens just isn't enough.

For me, Canon 24-70 2.8L. But I shoot people and nothing that really requires a telephoto. However, I do have 6 lenses in my go-to bag and I use them all.

would have to be something long like an 80-400 vr or a 500 2.8, would be great if someone made a 300-500mm f2.8 or f4!

Actually, scrap me saying I'd have a 30mm prime - what was I thinking!
I would of course have my Hooditron 2-2000mm F/1 lens. Complete with BP (Better Pictars).

hmmmnn, 30mm f1.4 would probably do me. maybe the nikkor 200-400 f4 tho. different lenses and a tricky choice eh.

Going from experience of what lenses I've used and like, would probably choose the Canon 70-200 2.8L IS, can walk around with it all day and while not ideal for macro or wide angle, and not being particularly long range it sits bang in the middle

As a counter I may also consider going "old school" and just choose a 50mm f1.4 and do it the way it used to be (although with a 1.6x crop factor;) )

Lots of lenses I would love to try but as I havent, I wouldnt want to be lumbered with it and find it to be wrong for me :)

Olympus 90-250 (180-500 eqv) f2.8 for me i think :D

tbh there is several i could do with ;)

The one I'm aiming to buy before too long please.....70-200mm f2.8 IS :D

The professional photographer at the track at Ipswich says that if he could only keep one of his lenses then it would be that one every time, too!

Dena,I just got Canon 24-70 F.2.8 this summer and without a dout its the best lens I have ever oned. Its a little heavy, but I would trade it for anything.Hope you get one.Good Luck

the soon to be out canon 50mm f1.2.... oh I can dream.

If it was just one lens out of my kit bag then it would have to be another vote for the 24-70 2.8L

Bloody good question anf one i keep asking myself!

from my own kit torn between 24-105 f/4 L IS and 50 f/1.4. I'm almost gagging for the 12-24 Sigma ex (twelve to twenty-bloody-four on a FF!!) and I'm close to mugging Matt for his 100-400 L.........

Dunno - guess like someone before me, the 50mm appeals to the purist, i'm just not good enough to use it too much!!

hehehe................

DITTO....:)

Thats easy. 1200mm. I wouldnt even care anymore. Id make the books as one of few people to own it! :)

To be serious.. Someone wanting to get into portaits then I would have to go for the EF 85mm F1.2 Mark II L

Ooh, difficult. The 70-200 is the one I use mostly but I'd probably go for the 100-400 as it offers me more useful range and would cover about 95% of what I do.

Going off the photographs I personally like to take, I'd have to go with something like the 28-105L. Nothing super extravagant but it gives me a nice average reach, which covers me from landscapes to candids.

17-55mm f/2.8 Nikkor - failing that a 35mm f/2 prime.

Ohh busterboy was nice enough to let me take a snap with this lens. I will envy him (and anyone else who owns one) till the day I die! Don't see me every convincing my husband I can spend that kind of money on a "hobby". I can dream though.

I would say something like a 400MM - 600mm 2.8 tbh, especially in light of the work I am ebbing towards.

Canon 50mm f/1 L

hmmm now you're askin'!

I think my best choice would be the NIkon 24-120 VR lens...its great for most shots...

From my own kit - Canon 24-70L F2.8

Otherwise - Canon 24-105L F4 IS

From my own kit - the Canon 24-105mm f/4 L

Any lens - the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS - a fabulous quality lens and excellent for portrait work.
