Ideas for portraits shoots

I have a family portrait thats coming up. I need some ideas different from the usaul portraits. Any ideas please
 
If your taking kids be sure to make it fun and your photos will be better. and watch your background
 
I saw one the other day in a clients office, they have 3 children and the third child (a boy maybe 6 yrs old) was being held suspended by the parents by his ankles in the middle of the frame.....so he was upside down compared to the other four people....hope that makes sense.....he clearly liked it enough to have it on display in his office.
 
At the end of the day you are looking for pictures which people will like. Make um smile get them close together and they will like the photos.
Make them relate to each other and you wont go far wrong.
