I booked a rail ticket ages ago when Virgin East Coast had a sale, so cheap seemed rude not to. So off to Leeds next week for the day, seemed like a good starting point, but not got any further ideas than that.

Thinking maybe Hebden Bridge area, no clue what it's like though, already been to most of the Airedale Line places, also visited Ilkley, Settle (including Ribblehead) Wakefield and
Bradford.

Just want somewhere to take a few photos, have a wander in the fresh air and grab some lunch
Had enough of the flat Cambridgeshire scenery, so any suggestions very gratefully received

Cheers
Rich

Hardcastle Crags is nice if you're going to Hebden Bridge, and there was a very good Mediterranean restaurant in the town when I visited two years ago. The Settle area is great for both walking and landscape photography

Hebden bridge is not bad, an old mill town, interesting little shops, decent pubs, its on the Rochdale canal and Hardcastle craggs (NT) are near about 1.5 mile walk.
HB itself is about 45-60 mins by train from leeds according to the metro journey planner.
Have a look on google there is lots of info about the place

Thanks to both of you, train connections work well so looks like its a goer for Hebden Bridge.
Hardcastle Crags looks nice and Heptonstall reads well too, just hope the weather plays ball now.

Just looked again and think I will get off the train at Mytholmroyd and walk along the canal towpath to Hebden Bridge, probably need a stroll after so much sitting on trains.

Yes, HB is a nice place to walk round with the canal worth a few shots and also Hardcastle Crags as others have said.

What day are you coming?
We might, just might be able to help you.
Myself and @Chris H are talking about a day out on Wednesday. We might be able to persuade @Mr Perceptive to join us and @Stephen L doesn't live too far away.
Hebden Bridge is an old mill town. Home of "The Coiners" in years gone by. (Google is your friend).
The canal can be interesting with typical northern mill town architecture
Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge (51).jpg

Up the valley is Heptonstall and the old ruined priory where the main coiner was buried after he was hanged...

Then up at Gibson Mill there is this

Let us know if you are interested in a meet - it won't cost you too much beer!

Sorry, only just seen this, always forget to set up the watch thread thingy.

I'm going tomorrow (Thurs) got about four hours to wander around which should be long enough to take a few photos.
Should be there about half ten and off again approx half two, must get round to meeting you all one day.

Hardcastle Crags (with its waterfalls and Gibson Mill) and Heptonstall were my favourites when I lived in that area. I rarely travel south of Skipton now!

Will do and could you include me please in any news of the possible Brum visit.
You'll have to get your alerts up and running because I'll probably do that via PM.
It isn't guaranteed to happen, so if you don't hear then don't get upset.

Well that was fun, good bits, lovely weather, walked up to Heptonstall wandered around, took some photos then strolled back down on a lovely path through the wooded side of the valley.

Bad times now, got back to Leeds to find no London bound trains and wouldn't be until the end of the day, ended up getting on a very slow crowded train to Sheffield. Then waited for a train to Peterbrough, well done East Midlands trains, how can you think a rush hour train from Liverpool to Norwich only needs two coaches.
Without the extra hordes it wouldn't have been adequate, I did get on (years of training on the tube helped) but so many people didn't and felt very sorry for them

Finally got back to good old Cambs five hours late, recover today photo editing and claiming my ticket money back, might even plan my next foray up north,
