Greetings to all

My family and I are all off on holiday to Florida in a few weeks. I am taking my SLR along with me but have been advised by a few people to get a compact as well for the days out that i'm not carrying it.

I'm open to suggestions really for a good one, not really sure what brand to go for. I'm a Nikon man however am always open to suggestions etc...

I look forward to any advice you may give or experiences good/bad with a compact.

Thanks to all

Panasonic do some nice compact cameras with Leica lens at a reasonable price

Make it a splash proof one then you can take it on the water rides. And you'll want to take it on the water rides!

I use Canon, and and have good experiences with the Ixus 750 and now with the 980IS

The 750 was good, but the 980IS is streets ahead.

Having gone on a long (10 week) and expensive holiday with my 750 only to crack the screen on the back in the first week I know the benefit of a viewfinder for back up. I wouldn't buy a compact without one.

(I should point out the at screen isn't particularly vulnerable, I had it in a leg pocket and fell against a table edge sailing across the Drake Passage in a gale)

I quite liked the idea of a waterproof shockproof camera like the olympus, but I don't see how the screen can be completely unbreakable, and I would still want a viewfinder.

I'm a bit odd on this viewfinder thing, most people wouldn't bother, but I've broken two screens now and been able to continue to use the camera, I think that is a huge advantage.
