What is the best length to have the black straws for a DIY grid spot setup?
Im using wide straws.

i think the longer they are then the moreof a spot they will produce.. im sure if you have a look on the Strobist website they will have a tutorial on this..

Try 5cm to start. Leave a 1cm gap between the face of the flash and the straws.

great thanks i'll give it a go. Only have 3 straws though so im not sure i'll have enough

You'll need around thirty 5cm lengths of straws to cover a stanard flash head. About ten straws shoul do it. Go to your local Wetherspoons for a drink, they usually have a tray with black straws on it.

odear i went to weatherspoons and filled my sisters handbag with 50 ish, well i can allways have a few lol
I saw the equation a while back, it was somat like:

angle of diffusion = tan diameter/length

*** do remember to leave a 1cm+ gap between the straws and flash head in case of meltage
