I found this yesterday, it seems the government is trying to digitise ID photography and in effect, make sure the only people that can do them are the post office. Many pro photographers, and indeed local high street shops that provide this service normally are somewhat put out by the idea of losing this income stream so thought I would post it here for you to discuss/sign if you wish. It is in TP and not business simply because in effect it will affect everyone, removing the choice of how and where you get your passport/driving licence/etc pictures done.

Oh, I did do a quick forum search and cant find other threads, but if its a dupe do let me know and will merge

Does this mean there'll be no more passport photo machines? If not, then how can they justify this? After all... whoever takes the photo is irrelevant if it's properly checked by an official when you're stood there in front of them.

Ridiculous... you'll need government approval to take a dump in this country soon. Why the hell did I come back from Canada?

Sorry, but this seems to be a Daily Mail hysteria going to hell in a handcart interpretation.

The linked website states:

Applications for licence renewal can be made at the designated post office on-line or by post when a paper portrait will be required. The DVLA highlights the on-line process in its application materials and seems to steer the applicant toward the PO rather than by post. The effect of this is that in time the number of paper portraits for DVLA purposes will decline.

So users DO have a choice, but the campaigners conveniently ignore this for the sake of their arguement

Technically, no, as Steve has pointed out, they currently claim they cannot make it a 'monopoly' but by pushing people towards the post office, and with contract renewals over the years, the fear seems to be that it will become that way if a fuss isn't made now. I guess we have seen it all before with legislatin
