I don't really like iCloud, call me old fashioned

particularly images - If I turn iCloud off do I loose the images etc., that are stored in iCloud

the images all have that iCloud "cloud" against them when they appear on my desktop

I think when you turn off iCloud in settings, it just turns off syncing - it doesn’t remove anything - can you post a screenshot of the screen you are on?

You could download them onto your hard drive.

I have been using icloud for years and it is handy to store finished images and syncing files between devices but its not a backup as such
I use Dropbox for that as well as offline storage

The issue with iCloud is that if you delete an image or do an edit by mistake it automatically saves the change and syncs to all your devices and can’t be undone which can be frustrating
As far as I understand if you turn it off it doesn’t loose what you have already backed up but I would not use it as a sole backup

What are the current favorite recommendations for backup as I am going to have to change mine very soon? At the moment I am using about 1.7 TB.

I'm using Macrium for local PC backup and Backblaze for remote. It's not cheap, but seems to work.
