Ice skating with your car

I guess as that is Portland, Oregon..... it is pretty permanent weather.
It only lasts about 3 days here...we can stay in.
Out there you cant just stop for 6 months each year.... anyway there are always some people who think they can beat nature!! :lol:
 
You'd have thought rather than stand around watching/taping it they could have actually gone out and tried to warn people...?
 
well richard they wouldnt get their $250 for you've been framed if they did that...
 
Ouch! That feeling of having no control of your car is awful - been there, done that and would never wish to repeat it.
 
I used to live on the steepest part of a hill once. When there was snow + ice I used to park at the very top of the hill rather than outside the house as people would come down the hill and slam on the brakes in panic....and hit all the parked cars.

There was a main road at the bottom of the hill and the salt used to thaw the last 10 yards. Correct procedure was to go down in low gear then brake on the last bit with no ice. Didn't inform the new owner when we moved about that :)
 
Coming from upstate NY I know a bit too much about this sort of weather. Noone can drive on ice, snow is pretty easy but ice is impossible. But every year idiots do it and either kill themselves or others. I have to say as long as the gentleman called the police he was right to stay in his house. It would be very very dangerous to be out on those roads walking as noone could even try to miss ya.

Just glad it wasn't me driving (being the passenger on the way to...) or watching my car get trashed.

WOW. hate to have to sort insurance details out for that lot!!

Madness that the roads aren't salted and people haven't got chains on to try and help a bit.
 
The insurance companies must be gutted after that, lol. Great vid.

Reminds me of where I lived when I was a sproglet.
We lived on the A650 main road between Bradford and Wakefield. The section outside the house isnt steep, but about a 100yards further up there is a reverse camber corner.... come the snow.... big trucks trundle up the road... no probs. Get to corner and have to slow down to get around it... oh oh... they lose traction and start to slide back down the hill...

As a 5 year old it was great fun to watch the following cars all make like lemmings.
 
Very intense stuff there, Sad that there is no gritters about though in a country where the weather is so bad.:(

Bet premiums went up that year, some seriously nasty conditions.
