I do a lot of sports photography but last night was my first attempt at ice hockey ... and what a disaster. Wasn't happy with any shots. Anyone got any advice on equipment, settings etc? Would be much appreciated ...

well i would have said panning, but if you do lots of sport im guessing you tried that. Erm equiptment i would say monopod but again im sure you've got that covered. sorry if i couldn't help

fastest shutter speed possible
fastest lens
IS (if you have it)
highest ISO you can get away with
AI servo focus
try to get high if you can, so you get more light into the lens. all the available light is reflecting off the ice, so the more of it you get in the picture the better.

dont get hit by the puck! it hurts!
