I want to do some basic: sharpen portraits & arty motor PP, software recommendation?

main pics i take are of family/baby and sometimes of motors

what i want to achieve is:

1) portraits
- sharpen
- make the eyes more prononuced (not sure technical name)
- baby photos turn them into more arty/magazine style (not sure how)
- b&W

2) motors
- moody sky
- sharpen/shading as i see some great effects going on
- keep some colour and turn rest b&W style

i have a macbook 2008 white intel 2GB ram.

played with iPhoto 09 but can't do the above. don't/can't spend loads

would photoshop element 8 do the job of what i want?

that's all i want to learn to do right now

also i know there would be decent tutorials about too.

also it's relatively cheap i think

eBay, 35-40 quid for mac version, guy called davad_technology has been used by a couple of guys on here. I will e ordering mine off him when my free trial is due to run out...

I've heard the Scott Kelby Books are pretty good. The new PSE8 one is on Amazon now..

Yup I got mine from him £39.95 word of warning it is just the disc and licence no fancy box or book, didn't even have to load the disc just put the licenece number on the trial and bingo
