I have been with my current broadband / webhost, and phone line provider for a number of years now, but I am wondering where I can get a better deal?

I need a broadband provider that also offers hosting for my little hobby site.

At the moment my phone line rental is £12.97 while broadband with hosting is £19.99

Added Mysql is £3.00 per month plus vat. But I have now stopped the mysql.

Can anybody please give me any suggestions, to any better deals ;)

When choosing broadband I would always favour the smaller providers rather than the huge mass market providers such as BT and Sky etc even though they might be not quite so cheap.

Not very many phone and broadband providers offer web hosting as part of their packs, that will probably bump the price up.

That said sky I've not had any bother with neither have any of my colleagues who all run their unlimited service and phone lines.

I'm with AAISP and for £30 per month that includes line rental, domain, email & web hosting. Also they don't have any ridiculous censorship policies like many of the mass market ISPs.

Why not choose your phone/bb provider separately and then buy web hosting separately. I run 3 websites at unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk for £3.30/month all in (I could run 300 for the same amount if I wanted to - unlimited domains/bandwidths/MySQL etc...). Let's not get into the "what does unlimited mean" debate though. For 99.9% of people running hobby sites, it means you are free to do what you want...

What censorship would that be? Can't say I've ever been restricted for content ( not that i search for content that would be considered for censorship )...

Crikey... they're expensive if you want to move large amounts of data a month....

I average about 30-50GB/month so I'm happy with the £30 I pay for this.
I've been known to move 10x this amount in a month on a 4Mbit/sec link... I've always been with ISPs that don't limit bandwidth accordingly.

Roll on fibre and unlimited data (got my eye on Clara.net for a business account at £35+VAT/month).

And before anyone says anything, I'm not the typical ISP user - I work from home and can be uploading large (1GB+) files to work on a regular basis...

That looks like a good deal, I will have a read up them. Thanks for that :)

Yes does seem a little expensive :shake:

Thanks for the replies fellas, I was thinking of getting rid of all my webstuff, but I will have one last check on my options....

My suggestion would also be to separate you web hosting, in using TSOHost and it's £15 a year, then just pick whichever phone/broadband will give you the best deal.

FWIW I'm with O2 as I get £5 per month off due to having my phone contract with them. Pleased with their service, and unlimited downloads. I called to move up to faster/more expensive package, but was told I couldn't as line isn't fast enough, I'm not convinced other companies would do that.

Exactly! Price isn't everything. I work from home and frequently have to drop 2-3GB system images to my house... getting them as fast as possible is a good thing - no throttling... instant support that knows my name at the other end of SSM, email, Twitter, phone... hence I'm not with a large heavily advertised service.

Split the webhosting from the ISP - get yourself a domain, use webhost for the mail and then you don't have the palaver of changing your email address in a 1000 places.

Helps greatly with spam too - you can pinpoint where it was leaked from - every company I deal with I use a unique address for them - so it's amazon<4 digits>@<domain name>, talkphot<4 digits>@<domain name>, etc.

If spam starts arriving to talkphot<4 digits>@<domain name> I know exactly where it came from and I can tell everyone I know and stop using them as well... (The 4 digits are purely as a guard against random chance spamming)

I am looking at the various options mentioned, thanks for all the posts guys ;)
