What a disaster last night was! We turned up the venue for our second gig and the place was tiny and absolutely heaving, the sound was bad and it was like a sauna, plus there was nowhere to warm up or tune up. Then at about 8pm we get a call from our vocalist to say he can't make it so our guitar tutor stepped in, unfortunately whilst he can really play his singing ability is a bit challenged to say the least. Also, our regular singer was supposed to be playing bass on the first song so I had to step in having never played it before and try and do some backing vocals, hence why you can see me trying to follow his lead in the first video.

Coupled with that was the fact that we were supposed to be on about 8.30pm but didn't end up playing until 10.30pm, all my mates were feeding me plenty of beer with the result that I was bolloxed by the time we got up there.

Be warned this isn't pretty. The video camera was right next to the mic speakers hence the distortion. It's me on the right by the way but you probably recognised me from the avatar.

Rick, I don't play bass, in fact I only started learning to play the guitar last year as I'm sure you could tell.

I ask cos I'm thinking about getting a bass (one of the many many things I'm 'thinking about' ).
Trouble is I keep watching Victor Wooten on youtube and thinking WOW, there's no way I'll ever get even 10% as good as him. If you havent checked him out, he's definitely worth a look...

Hey, Hacker,

All's well that ends well! LOL. My band (Reckless Red) has had its share of bad venues and drunken guitar solos, and we've lived to tell the tale. Fortunately, the guys who back me are very experienced and true masters of their instruments, so even drunk they play like demons.

I'll confess to many incidents of having to make up lyrics on the spot due to my mind going blank. It can get VERY interesting to say the least.

Just think of this as your worst case scenario, and know that it's bound to get better from there!
